Wow, people calm down. Susy, when you use all capitol letters in email forum some people consider that shouting. (That's why the comment above.) All these things as far as how many litters you should consider for one female are personal and depend on the breed and condition of the female. Some parent AKC clubs have guidelines that are breed specific. For instance most in the American Spaniel Club, the parent club of the American Cocker consider an average of 4 litters over the lifetime of a female. Also not all dogs come in season every 6 months, many come in every 10 months etc. All these things are individual. For many years breeders felt breeding back to back was a bad thing. I still think so. But there was a study done that came out saying that the incidence of pyometrtis is higher among dogs that are skipped a season and that skipping a season is hard on the uterus. So again medical research changed what people accepted as being gentler for decades.
BTW I still don't like the idea of breeding back to back but for the heck of it I will see if I can find a link to that study. Sorry can't seem to find the link any longer, but it had to do with pogesterone being hard on the uterus

Honestly most dog breeds out there are overbred right now. You should not consider breeding your dogs unless you have perfect examples of breed standards (which you can find the breed standards online at the AKC website). Also, don't breed dogs if you think you will make tons of money. Most good breeders only come out even. The cost of taking care of a pregnant dog can get really high. They should visit the vet for a check up often, plus all the puppies will need multiple shots before being ready to go home. Ideally puppies should live with their mom and litter mates for at least 2 months, so that is 2 months of good puppy food too. The mother should also be fed only puppy food while she is pregnant. And as someone else said, one litter a year is ok for the female starting with her 2nd year. I would stop breeding her when she is around 6 or 7 depending on the breed. Males can start breeding younger, and can breed longer. They also are not restricted to how often they breed during the year, but male dogs that stay intact (never neutered) are more likely to get cancer when they are older.

There a check spelling icon on the Q page use it the word is breed , cruel , illegal. Now on to your Q A dog should never be bred more than once a year . And never back to back ( after a litter ) it should have time to heal and replenish it body . A dog should also never be bred after five years of age unless its been well taken care of this is of course for females males are just like human males they get it when the can and are able to mate all the time . Now DO NT USE this info to become a puppy mill just because you can doesn't mean you should ,breeding dogs for the pure purpose of profit is wrong breeding dogs as a hobby and enjoyment of furthering the breed should be EVERYONE'S GOAL making better dogs by selectively breeding is a responsibility of any dog lover /breeder

I am sorry but you are far from being a breeder. You don't wake up one morning and say hey I want to become a breeder I think I would get my ideas from yahoo answers.

You get books, You study the breed you want to breed, You get all you dogs DNA and Go by AKC guide lines. You go to kennels learn from the good ones. Take what you don't like about something you seen and make it better.

You go back to school and learn to spell. You need to fill out papers and what I see her you not ready for that either.

You need to know your dogs inside out for when someone ask you a question you will know how to answer it. You need to know what to do when things go wrong. Even though breeding for the love of a dog is really great ..at times it can be sad..You need to know what to do when the sad times come. I wasn't perfect when I first started, but I didn't jump into it either and trust me I made some mistakes.

Start off with books , the good and bad with breeding. I don't believe in kennels my dogs live in my home and have run of my home. Just think about it for a while, calm down and learn before you even jump into this.

Hi I have always had a shepherd in my life, and i want to breed them someday for their standard but I am not going to any time soon until I finish my research- breed history, temp, ideal height & Weight, and everything else. I also want to get involved in dog shows and show them. Taking it from the fact that you cannot spell breed, and saying you dont know how to train a dog and how to train a pitbull says a whole lot that you are no where near ready to start a kennel. If i were you i would learn everything about the breeds you want to have make daily visits to a proffessional breeder and learn as much as you can about dogs in general

Sounds like your starting a puppy mill. Its people like you who give people like me hobby breeders a bad name. Anyway you can breed back to back heats but then a year off. 6-7 litter is a max for most people depenting on litter size. Do some reading before you start this I suggest shooting for the stars. And breeding for dummies. Im not being nasty breeding for dummies hads a lot of good data to help get a good quality genitic mating. You learn about reguirations clearances and how to match dogs.

First, if you can't properly spell the word (breed), then you probably shouldn't be doing it .

Second, sounds to me like you are on your way to starting a puppy mill... people who breed for shows don't need to come onto Yahoo to ask questions.

Stop breeding... there are plenty of dogs that need homes already... and if people do want a purebred from a breeder, they will go to someone with years of experience and education (both in general, and in the subject, neither of which you appear to have).

The solutions are everywhere in the map, and all are the two "valid" (or invalid), because of the fact heaven, as a very imaginary place or state of being, is a sort of content cloth-unfastened psychological projective attempt, like an empty room that non secular believers can beautify and supply with regardless of stuff they want.

I know you said don't be cruel, but dog farms ARE NOT A GOOD THING. Especially if you don't know what you are doing. Have you had your dog's hips x-rayed? Have they had their certification from the opthamologist, confirming their health? You should not breed your dog over and over and over just for the money. Good dog breeders are NOT in it for the money.

Oh, and bread, is spelt BREED!

you asked this 3 weeks ago :

"R PitbullsHARD TO TRAIN?????
CAUSE I HAVE A PUP 3 MONTHS OLD AND IDK HOW TO TRAIN HIM
BECUSE I NEVER TRAINED A DOG"

If you don't even know how to train a dog, then what makes you think you are so qualified to start a "dog farm"? Also, just because your dogs are allegedly "perfect", doesn't mean you should breed them. And if you don't have good reason to breed or are asking questions like this, then you definately should NOT be breeding.
