On the discovery channel they said people living in that part of earth at that time had dark skin, and he was born in a barn so we all know he was poor.

What kind of question is this? What are you trying to say?

Just because somebody was born in a "barn" (as you put it) doesn't mean that they're poor - that's a bogus assumption. Plus, Joseph was informed to move his family from place to place out of harm's way. And from what I recall, they went to an "Inn," but it was too full. Have you ever considered that Jesus was born in a private "barn" for solitary purposes--especially because Joseph was warned that the baby was really special and needed to be safe, being that Herod was after Him? I don't think they had any top notch medical centers with the latest ultrasound, epidurals, and medical technology. God designed for Jesus to be born in a place of solitude. So if your mother later revealed to you that you were born in the back of a Ford Pinto, does that make you poor? That's a hasty generalization. And just because somebody is dark-skinned does not mean they're "black." I don't know your ethnicity, but it sounds like this question has traces of bigotry, and I'm not impressed by this dry humor. If you are indeed black, you should show some pride for your race--if you are another racial origin, you need to show some respect--by any means, you should think more highly of Jesus and quit believing everything you hear because assuming things causes you to make a butt out of yourself - your question/comment however, reeks ignorance...try harder next time.

Oh, and Spades, don't assume that all black people like corn bread and chicken--you're a retarded, racist asshole.

The bible says nothing about Jesus being poor. In fact, it is unlikely that anyone that had that much influence over others was in any way poor. Using the manger scene to assume Jesus was poor is a bit like assuming someone is jobless for life simply because they didn't have a job when they where 2 years old. Jesus (according to the bible) had a marketable trade. Anyone with marketable trade back then was not poor since so few people had such skills.

Additionally, those of Jewish descent are not black. Even the majority of Egyptians and other north african types do not have dark skin. Why is being so close to africa used as reason for Jesus being black? Nonsense.

He was from the middle east, so he was darker more like someone from the middle east today, so an olive skin or brown flesh color. We just get the image of present day Jesus because the people of the Middle Ages had a bad problem of just painting people who looked like them. And the place he grew up wasn't really a ghetto, it was more like a farms and things. He was poor but the setting wasn't urban like a ghetto.

I forgot to add, he wasn't born in a barn, based on historical fact and the customs of the Jewish people he was probably born in a cave, and the classic nativity scene is wrong because Joseph would not have been present and three midwives would be, no matter how poor you were. And Jesus was poor, because he was Jewish and they were suppressed by the Romans. The nativity we see nowadays was created by the ancient Christians who just wanted to simply represent a summary of the actual story. Oh, and Joseph wasn't a Carpenter, the original Greek the bible was written in describes Joseph as worker with his hands, chances are he just did odd jobs.

No...he hated corn bread and fried chicken...so he could not be black and not from the ghetto because they weren't around yet.

well, he was from Nazereth...which could be referred to as the "ghetto", and he would've had dark skin...so i guess the answer is yes.

It wouldnt matter to me if he was CHinese, Black, White or whatever. Who cares. He was never rich. Why does that matter in matters of spirituality?
