Unfortunately, I know by experience that some people are difficult to change, either because that's their way of life or they get an ego kick out of getting an ASBOS -lol-
So ignore them if the first approach and civilised discussion does not work out (although it may so always worth a try, give a chance to their good side)
and try noise insulation, ear plugs, playing in the background a music or sound (nature, birds, sea, ...) YOU like so it will cover their noise and create a cool atmosphere for you
next a 12 gauge buckshot is a tempting option, but would make you the bad person.
Hope they'll move hee hee hee
If all fails then just move if you can. You deserve better neighbours :-)
Everybody needs their sleep and peace, right? Good luck.

good question and a hard one to answer as some are approachable others are not.

ask them first, if they the approachable ones, some might not be aware they being noisy. If they they get confrontational then back off as will make matters worse.

If they not the approachable type or the unreasonable type then you can only go through the correct authorities. Or you can do what a neighbour of mine did and he hired a group of 'heavies' who 'persuaded' neighbours to move out, next day they were gone.

I know from first hand that they can be hell, i couldnt sell my apartment until the tennants next door had vacated as they were that loud.

look under 'heavies' in yellow pages!

The situation, as it stands, is the best it is ever going to get, especially if you act in any way. People who are noisy are also rude by nature, so complaining or calling the cops will only make it worse. Noisy people don't keep quiet out of respect for others.

Best way to deal with them is to move. Get a place with no neighbors. I lived in one apartment in my life and I would never do it again. Now I can see one neighbor who lives over 1000 feet from me. The only other one I have, I can barely see the top of his roof. I could cut my grass naked and no one would even notice.

Complain to the police and record them as evidence in the UK laws have been passed to stop this. I used to be a hell raiser tho am a good neighbour now. If possible tho first I would chat to them in a friendly way and explain to them, I don`t know what type of people they are you need to put more info if you want people to help you

I haven't had the problem, thankfully. We all are about equal in noise production. Example: I have two dogs, the people on one side two, and on the other, five.
Once a git was playing his car radio way too loud, so I cranked mine up. My four 100+ watt speakers over did his and I know from being there when mine was cranked, rattled the windows.
In my case, I call it fighting fire with fire, but really we all do get along.
A true blessing.

i have some and so far this has worked. i introduced myself when we first moved in and they seemed ok. but then every weekend ( i work at 5am on weekends) they started turning their tunes louder and louder. i went over there and pointed out the situation after one of their parties and they stopped for a while. then they did it again and i called the bylaw office and found out that after 11pm there is a no noise bylaw in suburbs. so the next time it happened i called the police and they got a ticket. they were evicted a couple weeks later (unrelated) but now i have peace and quiet!

depends on the type of noise.

if its footsteps and stuff along that line, then the council cant help you with it and neither can the police.

if its music, learn to appreciate their taste and enjoy it - or maybe make friends with them and go over there from time to time, if they like you, they will be more considerate.

im talking from experience. my neighbour complains all the time about us walking and stuff (the floorboards are thin i guess). she went to the council and stuff but they said they cant do anything bcos we have to walk obviously. she also tried to keep complaining to us, but everytime she did, we'd get annoyed and do it deliberately for about 30mins. now she just doesnt say anything unless its real bad in which case we totally sympathise with her (like when we have guests children come over) and we offer her the option of sitting with us so she doesnt have to hear it

Ask them politely to be more considerate as they may be unaware that they are being a nuisance.Depends how often they make noise, if it is the weekend or special occasion.
It's best to try to come to an amicable agreement as you have to live side by side.

Make more noise than they do or tell the Local Council. They are breaking the law.
