Do you respect Jesus' teachings about human ethics but not his teachings on supernatural concepts? Have you found a 'middle ground' with the teachings of Jesus?

Thanks.

I do! :)

Jesus forgave prostitutes; he didn't go around calling them whores.

Whenever I am asked whether or not I believe in Christ, I tell them that although I think he is still a mortal, his teachings are universal and if properly followed, would make the world a better place.

There are better sources as far as ethics go. I wouldn't look to Jesus' teachings for any sort of lessons in morality. Jesus was a cult leader, he was not really that nice a guy, and he martyred himself. I don't admire Jesus and I don't believe that what he taught was the truth. It also wasn't intended to be believed or used by anyone other than his own people. That would be like saying that we should all listen to what Jim Jones had to say. Jim Jones didn't mean for his words to be heard by everyone, just his chosen people. Jesus was no different. There are many similarities between Jesus and Charles Manson, Dave Koresh, and Jim Jones. All you have to do is familiarize yourself with each story and you can see it.

I am an atheist. I am not certain that the person Jesus even existed, but I do think that some of the teaching in the gospels are very valuable. I totally subscribe to the so called "golden rule". I think if we all treated others the way we want to be treated the world would be much better. I also like the parable that ends with "Whatsover you do to the least of my bretheren , that you do unto me." I find it interesting that those are the people that Jesus said would go to heaven.

i think he had good ideas about ethics. i doubt that he was the son of god. but i wouldn't exactly say that i found a "middle ground" with his teachings because i actually think that his ethic laws are mostly common sense. being an atheist, i didn't exactly read the bible, so i probably have no right idea about his teachings anyways.

It doesn't matter what religion you are or even if you are athiest...

If everyone followed the one proper teaching of Jesus, ie, do to your neighbour as you would have them do to you, the world would be a better place.

In my opinion, all other religious dogma is essentially garnishing, and that's what causes the trouble. No one will disagree with the fact that being a good person is not a bad thing.

Jesus was a wonderful spiritual figure, and his teachings were very appropriate to the people who became his devotees. His life was pure, and his practice was pure, and his example helped lead many of his followers to spiritual bliss. I'm not so much a believer in the nitty gritty of Christianity, but his stance on human societal beliefs was very applicable across all time periods.

Since ALL the writings about Jesus Christ, are written by others, and NOT by Jesus himself, I Doubt if most of what is written was actually said!
why?
Wait until someone unknown dies, and the friends and family is interviewed, they ALL will say that the person was a GOOD person, a helpful, cheerful person.
But in reality, that person could have been evil!
NO ONE SPEAKS ILL OF THE DEAD, ESPECIALLY Jesus Christ!

I'm willing to respect his ideals about human ethics and treatment of others. Sadly, those teachings come wrapped up in tales of the impossible. Worse, said teachings are frequently not practiced by those who claim to follow them. Conservative Evangelicals in particular seem to have a problem with "loving their enemies" and "loving thy neighbor".

Jesus simply taught to love....according to the biblical texts. I have a problem with the authenticity of the Bible though, as there is no positive proof of the identities of the authors, the editors, the translators, as well as the agendas and mental states of these individuals. If the fate of my soul depended on my accepting a questionable document as "the only way", I'm sorry. The creator gave me intelligence and a sense of logic to enable me to identify nonsense and baloney.

I enjoy learning through Jesus's teachings. I think a lot of what he said was good for most people and still is.
