Oh heck, no, God didn't intend for you (or me) to have depression. Or a hard life, for that matter. Thats just the hand we were dealt in this free-will system that God made up for us. Sin was introduced and now we get to deal with the crap that goes along with it. God is here, next to us now, dealing through that crap with us. He'd love to be the comfort so many people need, and He can be pretty easily.
Thats my take on it.

I don't know but, I feel sorry for you if that is the case. Clinical depression can be very hard for a person to deal with. I hope you take meds. I am wondering what triggered the depression. Sometimes when a life is so hard and a persons body is always robbing from Peter to pay Paul (sort of speak) when it comes to adrenalin to try to be ready to handle constant problems then our brain finally doesn't go along with the orders. Ya know what I mean? Also too there is constant physical problems that can cause it too along with meds that can cause it. Sometimes too the depression itself can make it seem that problems are multiplied when they are just as much as everyone has but, depression causes you to look at the world through "different" eyes. I will pray for you. God certainly knows how you feel and I don't know if this is what he had in mind for you but, I think you will not see the beautiful tapestry you have woven until you get to the other side and he shows you. Keep the Faith. This is the only thing that is important and offer ALL of your suffering up united to the suffering of Jesus on the cross. It could be that you are being called to suffer in this way for the sins of others which in this case your suffering is not wasted but of immense value.

I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering from depression and have had a hard life. I don't think any of us understand why some people undergo such severe trials, while others don't seem to have many problems at all.
Only God will be able to explain the reasons to you when He wipes away all your tears, but I do know this much:
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Your faith and faithfulness bring glory to His Name because you have remained true to Him even under the worst trials. He will give you the strength to meet the challenges, and He will be there right beside you, no matter what happens.
God bless you, my friend. I'll pray for you.

Professional help may be in order.
That said, God does not want you to be clinically depressed and have a hard life. However, Satan does. And right now, we live in a fallen world that is run by man. So it is man (me included) that has allowed this to happen to you.
Stinks, doesn't it? Guess what--man can also pe a part of the solution. Get counsel from good clergy and other counselors.
God intends for you to have a wonderful and fulfilled life! Please reach for it!

I'm a Christian, and also have some problems like that too...God doesn't want us to suffer...but, like a cold, or the flu, or cancer, depression is a disease...we need to look at it like a chemical imbalance...not a personality flaw! Anyone who makes you feel it's lack of faith has never experienced it, and/or has no compassion! Asking why Christians have depression and a hard life is the same as asking why some get cancer, why some are killed in accidents, etc. Because of the imperfectness of the world, these things exist...but, God will get us through them if we allow him (and through the use of medicine and counseling)

Jesus did say to "take up your cross and to follow...". Your cross is called Depression. Mine was, too, for years. Meds help...prayer...good friends...being involved...counseling...mine taught me compassion for others. Make "friends" with your depression....truly you will learn from it and it will not master you. Many people function for years with back pain, arthritis, migraines...my depression was caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. I'd burst into tears at the slightest perceived offense. I have better coping skills now -- and I am much more rational. I feel so much younger!!!
No, God did not give this to you...it is not his will. But He -- being God -- can use your pain according to his plan. Trust him.

Depression can be a medical cause and needs to be checked out. Hormone imbalance play a large role. The hard life can be circumstancial depending on the gifts God has given you and you haven't what they are yet.

Clinical depression can be greatly improved by medicine that wasn't even available 20 yrs ago. I've lost 2 brothers to depression. Thank God for the treatments available. We ALL have something to complain about. I have chronic migraines, and fibromyalgia.....Praise God for the good in your life....LIFE is SOOOO much better for YOU and those around you when you do...you'll find your depression lifting when you count your blessings!

God doesn't MAKE these bad things happen to you. They just happen, and He tries to be there when you need Him to help out.
Just think. If there wasn't a God, you'd be clinically depressed, and furthermore, there would be nobody to pray to or to look after you or to love you. Be glad He is there for you, and know that as long as you have faith, one day you'll be rewarded with eternal life in Heaven.

YOU do not have to lack faith for this to happen.
GOD did not intend this. This is an act of SATAN praying on your weaker parts.Make yourself stronger.Work on the areas you are weak and satan will LEAVE and make GOD more of a presense in your LIFE.GOD will guide YOU the right way.
BE STRONG>
I have depression also and PROMISE myself daily that GOD is ALWAYS by my side.I am becoming stronger and YOU will too...
