While on vacation, out of the country, your son, who has no driver's license, uses your car. He gets caught by a family member who is checking on things for you and uses the car again. How do you punish this rebellious 19 year old?

id tell him he better get a license and a good job really quick because he has 30 days to find his own place. im not all about kicking kids out when they become an "adult" but once they betray my trust thats it. im not saying i would "disown" him or anything, i would just give him a reality check that he is an adult now and needs to grow up

Hard to punish a 19 year old, can't really put him in time out. You should have him charged for stealing. I know your the parent, and probably would feel awful doing so, but you have to teach him a lesson, and if you let him off easy he will know he can walk all over you, and you won't do nothing about it. Who knows what he will steal th next time. Or speak to an officer and tell them what your son did, and you don't want him charged but you want him treated like he is being charged, just to scare him, and let him know that you mean business. Good Luck

WOW 19...kinda hard to "punish" an adult child. I'd make sure he didn't have access to the cars or keys for awhile. I'm mom to 3..one is a 17 yo boy. I'd also let him know that technically you could press charges, cause he stole the car and isn't licensed to drive. Both are against the law.

19? hope he has a job!!! if not DEMAND that he gets one.
let him know if he EVER does anything even similar he can go find another place to plop his car stealing behind!!!
tell him that because he stold your car he can not use your car for at least 6 months!!! and at that he is lucky that it's not a year!!!

Make sure your keys aren't accessible to him at all. Had he got in a wreck your insurance could have chose not to cover it or cover it then drop you.

Tell him that it was theft, go over the consequences. Also maybe talk about what could have happened if he had an accident- no licence, no insurance

I would have the RCMP called and tell them that the car was stolen. But then, I'm really a harda$$.
