A domestic dove has a very slim chance of carrying disease. As stated above, a healthy bird should not make you sick. If you don't take your bird outside, there is a slim chance your bird could come in contact with anything that would make it sick.

However, you do need to keep all birds out of drafts, keep their cage clean, and make sure that their food and water are always kept fresh.

Please, both you and your mom need to go to the library and read up on doves, their care, and any other concerns you may have.

I personally have kept birds for the last 19 years, several of those years I kept the birds in my room with no health problems.

Well, you will have to do what your mom says, regardless, but...
The main disease problem for humans with doves is that fungi and bacteria can grow in the droppings if they are not cleaned up.
The other possible health problem is if you are allergic to the dove.
Doves, like other birds can get mites (like fleas for birds) and sometimes these can annoy people, but mainly they are not good for the bird. You can buy sprays for this, but most likely you won't need to.
Birds are kind of messy, throwing their food and feathers around; maybe your mom thinks it's best to keep this mess out of your room.

If your dove is already sick there are certain diseases he can give you. If you get a healthy bird it is unlikely he will pass a disease to you, especially if you keep his cage clean.

Many people mistakenly think that there is an imminent danger of bird flu from pet birds- while they can contract the disease, it is not in most parts of the world yet.

I've had people tell me that the parrots I have had in my home for years are now somehow putting me at risk of bird flu, which is absolutely not true.

Feral doves and pigeons do carry diseases some times. Because the live in cramped dirty conditions. But provided your dove is coming from a clean source, and is healthy you shouldn't have any problems.
