This is a sad thing really and frustrating. All major religions have a dominionist agenda. Now practitioners of these religions vary in how intensely they try to get conversions. A lot depends on the leader of your spiritual community or the religion itself how much they stress getting converts and how much they stress that those outside their faith are; misinformed, uninformed, deluded, being tricked by Satan, or just evil.
It seems almost impossible for some people to have friendships with people of other faiths, atheists or agnostics beyond a fairly light and superficial state.
Having said that, I have known a number of people married to someone of a different faith over the years. I did so myself. It can work and be a beautiful testiment to the beauty of love or it can be hell on earth.
I have tryed to join organized religions but have left more than once when pressured to convert friends and family and or keep my frienships within the faith.
I have had at least four or more friendships hurt by the influence of priests, community leaders and dogma itself. I was not allowed to be a bridesmaid at two of my closests friends wedding because I was not a Christian. Needless to say it was very hurtful...it was a huge shock as well. Our friendships weren't distroyed completly, but we rarely speak now.
I welcome friends from every religion, colour, gender whatever, but I am realistic now and realize you cannot get to close to some people. I still give everyone a chance. If I see something like a racist attitude or extremist views I try to deal with it constructivly (LOL!) but I find I have less patience with as an example, missionaries and individuals that really are not interested in dialogue as much as dogma.
Peace and good will.
P.S. it shouldn't matter in some respects, but I live a very quiet life, I don't drink, smoke cigarettes, do drugs and I don't sleep around. I love humanity and this amazing gift of life and the whole of creation. I am horrified at the violence and disregard for each other that humanity seems to want to cultivate in the name of God and greed. I am not perfect, but I am not afraid of the light of God only of the blind hatred in the eyes of some inhuman human beings.

Religion was and still is the root of a lot of war.
It is also hard for lets say an atheist to even communicate with a christian, since the christian belief is the atheist will go to hell since he does not follow christ. Thats not very nice. Most religious people belief that there is only one god and that is the god they believe in.
Also some people can see as clear as day that there is no god just like a religious person can see as clear as day that there is a god.
This just brings up a lot of conflict between not only atheists but between two different religions.
PLUS most religions try to force their beliefs on other people.
I could keep going all night actually.
Peace and loveness

The inquisition, the sunday morning preachers, Jerry Falwell, Northern Ireland, The 9-11 pilots, Bush, Bin Laden, street corner preachers, the churchlady.
This list of reasons could continue. I think it is something about the history of religion that turns most of us off. A history of extreme violence and intolerance. And the fact that the violence and intolerance has not slowed down much. You have people like Fred Phelps popping up all the time. You got KKK, Nation of Islam , Christian Identity, Taliban, Al Quaeda, and that list keeps growing as well.
Never forget that the Nazi Party was a Christian fascist political party, not Just a Fascist political party

People tend to judge themselves through the eyes of others...unfortunately you cannot see through the eye's of someone else and you end up judging yourself more harshly.
Feeling judged, even if it's all in your mind, makes you feel defensive and then you feel the need to attack what makes you uncomfortable.....
then there are those who are really judging you and letting you know about it...their action's are wrong and self serving...pay no attention to them....

I don't. I only dislike the ones who dump on others who don't believe what they believe.
