my adult male and female cockatiel ate 3 of their 4 babies--this is their 5 clutch and they have never done this in the past WHY NOW?

Are you certain it was the parents that ate the chicks? Often time rodents raid nest boxes and kill and eat chicks. This doesn't mean that you have a hygiene problem. Mice and Rats are just going to be around as long as there is seed and such that they can pinch.

I agree, once they start eating or killing their young, you need to keep them from breeding ever again, even with different mates.

Pull that last chick and start handfeeding it before they kill it as well. Ask the vet to show you how and purchase handfeeding formula and feeding equipment from the pet store.

There is not always a clear answer, but what is quite clear is that you can't let that pair have another clutch of hatchlings... it is quite possible it will happen again.

How often did you let them breed? Maybe they laid eggs to often and now they are tired and frustrated.
