a lightweight foul weather jacket....ie raincoat..LL Bean has excellent ones.....your own towel.......non slip deck shoes....sneakers dont cut it!!
pack all your shampoo, toothpaste et al in a seperate "shower caddy" pack....once again, see LL Bean
several changes of shorts, shirts; one good pair long pants and dressy shirt for ashore at night.....
pack everything in a soft duffle bag......no room for suitcases on a yacht!
and most importantly how long a trip how big a boat and where going and what time of year........its a little more relaxed in the islands, anchoring every night...... versus going 7 days and 7 nights w/o stopping from Newport to Bermuda in April.......

Hmm.... If I were going on a long sailing trip, I, too, would avoid those sites dedicated to sailing, nor would I talk with dockmasters, nor would I look in back issues of "Sailing" or in books.
Because that would be just what they would expect me to do.

You can get towels that are "wicking" and dry super fast, they also contain Silver, so that naturally kills bacteria...very important as you won't get mold growing on them, like on cotton or chamois. You can get these from www.discoverytrekking.com
They make several sizes. They were just written up in Sailing Magazine as an amazing product for boats, and travel.I got one for swimming.
