I really feel for you. I have been there. I could fill up this page of all the ridiculous things I used to do while I was on Ambien. But that's not what you asked so I want. I just had to decide one day that enough was enough and throw them in the toilet. I was absouletly miserable. I talked to my doctor and he put me on Ambien CR (non narcotic) which didn't seem to do much and then on Trazadone which seems to help pretty well. None work as well as Ambien did, but Ambien just wasn't worth the side effects. Good luck! Email me if you have any other questions.

I honestly didn't know Ambein was addicting, but I am aware that if you abuse anything, even aspirin, it can be addicting. I have been on 10mg.ambein for over a year, and it got to where it was less and less effective. I talked to my family doctor and he decided to try me on the ambein cr. It works pretty good for me. I take it an hour before I want to go asleep and i get really sleepy. If you were abusing ambein and got addicted, you should tell your doctor immediately. I don't think you are addicted, maybe you just needed something short term to help you sleep. I have had servere insomnia for years and this drug is a lifeline for me. Before I started ambein, I used Unisom or excedrin pm. Unisom really drugged me out and left my mouth really dry and it seems like I needed more as time went on. I think if you aren't abusing drugs, you won;t become addicted. talk to your family doctor if you are really worried, please.

Start off by cutting down your dose. If you take 30 mg, start taking 20, then 10, then 5, etc. If you can't split the pills into the right amounts, ask your Dr. for an Rx of smaller pills.
Also, switch to natural sleep remedies. Drink warm milk 30 minutes before bed, spray a lavendar scent on your pillow and avoid TV and computer light for 1 hour before bed. The light messes with your internal sleep clock.

You should call your doc on that one. Usually, you taper off pills like that, or you get rebound insomnia and restless legs and all that. But you need expert advice. Also, don't flush your pills down the toilet, send them to the landfill. the fish and frogs are being mutated with these drugs everyone is flushing (united states geological survey study).
good luck!!

Go to your doctor's office. Let him/her know you feel you are becoming dependent and they can ween you off of them.
