I'm wondering if perhaps I am suffering from Bi-Polar? For awhile, I get these bouts of depression and I can't shake it off. It's like a feeling of hopeless and lonelyness. Sometimes it's like that for hours, that dreadful state. Sometimes I just want to be alone and want no one to be near me. Then after a few hours I am ok.

These do not appear to be the symptoms of bi-polar disorder, but I am not a doctor. If this continues, you should consult a doctor. I hope your feeling better by now. Perhaps you just have a lot on your mind, and you will be fine again soon. If you feel you need a professional answer, you should see a psychologist. Also, talk with your family and friends about how your feeling. That should help the most.

bipolar is far more serious than that. The moods last for weeks or months, usually, or you flip flop between extreme depression and extreme happiness and hyperactivity every few days. EXTREME is the operative word here. If you are able to hold down a job or do your schoolwork mostly ok, it probably isn't bipolar. And depression lasts longer than a few hours too. If your moodiness is so bad that you are in emotional AGONY where you are ready to go get the rope and hang yourself, well, that is very severe, and I'm not sure what's going on, but you need to see a doctor about that.

Could it be PMS? Have you kept track? Even "normal" people without mental illness get moody sometimes. Also, sometimes if it is overcast for a couple of days, most everyone gets kinda depressed.

If you are suffering from anything, it would be depression. Bi-polar disorder is more than being happy and then being sad. Bi-polar sufferers lows are real low. As in suicidal thoughts, the inability to get out of bed, feeling extreme rage towards loved ones, etc. Their highs go beyond what a child at Disneyland for the first time feels.

Could be stress-related, could be depression, could just be low blood sugar or some other biological reason. Are you eating regular nutritious meals? Your body and mind need enough fuel to make you feel good! Take a walk once a day and listen to some tunes to let your mind relax....that can help tremendously! Perhaps you can get a pet and when you feel down, tell it about your troubles lol.

I don't think so. I have an uncle with bipolar disorder, and his bouts of depression last for weeks, not just hours. And when he isn't feeling depressed, he goes through extreme hyperactivity and he doesn't sleep for days at a time. Bipolar disorder is a mental disorder that is far more serious than what you are discribing. Consider yourself lucky; you're probably just going through a stage.

I think everyone has had the blues for some time. You could be either anxious or depressed about something. Relax--close your eyes, take a deep breath, and get back in there! Life needs you and you need life...have a good time--do something that makes YOU happy. Okay? Have a wonderful night!

TRY THIS EXERCISE FOR A WEEK:

When your feelings start, Stand up and lift your arms to the sky and tell yourself in a very loud voice...in your mind...GOD LOVES ME...I have the power to overcome this...repeat it 7 times, when you feel your heart rate increase a little bit...go to the bath room, wash your hands and face, smell a tangerine or orangy parfume for 7 times inhaling deeply, be careful if the cologne or parfume is to strong, between every cologne intake, breath air, so you will have 14 inhalations... then look for something nice and relaxing to do.

This is something I have done, and It has work on the past.

REMEMBER THAT YOU CONTROL YOUR MIND...DON´T LET IT CONTROL YOU.

Good luck.

Nothing you've written indicates bipolar disorder, which includes bouts of mania. It sounds like regular depression. It might be a good idea to find a good psychologist (not necessarily a psychiatrist) who can talk to you and maybe give you a simple test. Good luck.
