My friend and her husband are doing interviews and this is the first time they've done them for a babysitter so they are wondering what questions should be asked (in addition to checking references).

How much pay?
What kind of activities?
Will you transport if I need you to?
Are you CPR certified and when?
What do you enjoy most about kids?
How do you think you should discipline a child?
What was your most rewarding sitting job and what was the worst...why?
Have you had any run ins with the law?
Will you cook meals or do I need to prepare ahead?
Are there any times you can NOT sit?
Will you tidy up after the children or do you charge extra for that?
How about additional housework?
Would you be uncomfortable if I or another family member pop in unannounced from time to time?
Could you keep notes on any achievements my child has done while I was away?
Do you have any questions for ME?

Asking questions really won't get you very far. A person can always lie and asking questions really doesn't give you an understanding on how a person will handle a situation. I would tell your friend to ask questions related to experience, references, and of course what ifs to bad situations. (ex. if the child started throwing a fit, what would you do? if the child doesn't listen, what would you do?) Most importantly, they should hold a trial run. Have the potential babysitter come over for an hour or two while your friends are home and see how she handles the children first hand. It'll also five your friend a chance to show the potential babysitter what her expectations are and how she handles certain situations.

I'm 19 and been a babysitter/nanny for yrs. They ask me my rates, if I want cash or check and if I want to get paid every wk or every 2 wk, but thats not important other than the rates which are. They ask for references, and only one person has asked me for a background check, out of the tons of people I've babysat for. Ask times, and days available and state the times and days you'll need them most.
