don't take offense to this, but there is a book called ASVAB FOR DUMMIES, I bought it and read it and did some of the practice tests in it, it costs 20 bucks at any good bookstore, now i was out of the army for twelve years before i went back in, and when the recruiter saw my test scores he said i scored better than 4 high schoolers, i must say that i was very happy with my score also. I'm still in and I tell anyone that asks about the test the same thing, that book will really help you as it has practice asvabs to grade yourself, keep studying that book until you are confident enough, let me know how it goes

Go to the library or Barnes and Noble. Go to the study guide section and get the ASVAB study guide. The guide has several practice tests and goes over in detail every section of the test. If you study with this guide and take and retake the sample tests you will do great. Concentrate on the math and english sections the most. The mechanical knowledge and other similar areas are not used to get the score you are talking about. They only help narrow down which kinds of jobs you would be good at. If you score well on the practice tests you will do the same or better on the real test.

well for starters, i applaud you for wanting to join the service. this country would be alot better off if others had the same courage that you do. well i would suggest that you brush up on your basic school skills. math, english, reading comprehension, general science, and so forth. there is also parts to the asvab that have to do with shop information, so definately brush up on the workings of autos. somthing that i did to better my score on the asvab, was to go get an asvab prep book from my local book store. they don't cost much, and they usually have things that you can use to study up on the topics that will be on the asvab.

also keep this in mind. the asvab is not an intelligence test. its a qualification test. you can't pass or fail this test. not to say that your score dosen't matter on it, it does, but its not somthing that the military uses to detirmine if you are smart enough to join the military. the sole purpose of the asvab is to help your recruiter to find a job in the service that would best suit you. for example. when i took the asvab, i scored a 45. that qualified me for many jobs in the service. i'm going out for the army, because of what they offer, it suits my situation better. anyway, what i want to do for the army boils down to 3 m.o.s.'s (military occupational specialities). 88 mike, which is motor transport, 45 bravo, which is small arms / artillery repairer, and 21 papa, which is a prime power production specialist. with my score i qualify for all three jobs.

somthing that i would suggest that you do, is register with http://www.military.com. they have alot of useful information on that website, that could give you other pointers that might help you out. plus they also have practice asvab tests that you can take on that website. it helped me out when i was preping to take my asvab.

I went through the same thing. just relax and work on youre basic math skills, formulas, order of operations. science this is whats going to get you. if you are good with geology you will be fine, however study a little bit about biology and chemistry. there is also a auto/shop section just watch some carshows and study a manual about tires. and then there is a section about assembiling parts just watch the points and shapes (when you take the test you will know what i mean). then there is a word knowlege/paragraph comprehension part just rehears your basic highschool english.

Pick up an ASVAB study guide, available at most major bookstores and quite possibly the local/county library. It should help you focus on your weak points.
