teriyaki is sweet.. originated from japan
soy sauce is not.. usually used in chinese (among other types) food.

You can use terryaki sauce on a lot of stuff including chinese foods. It is used on a lot of meats such as chicken, steak, and pork. Soy sauce could be used on these meats but are typically used for things such as stir fry and other chinese and oriental foods. Terryaki sauce is sweeter and has almost a sweet and sour sauce or BBQ flavor to it. Soy Sauce has a lot more sodium in it and is saltier. It is good for steamed veggies and rice that need a little extra flavor. Good luck on your experiments.

So many choices so little time...Teriyaki is a japanese sauce made with a lot of soy sauce in it. Ask 25 Asian Chefs/Cooks for their recipe and guess what....

Soy sauce is used to make terriyaki sauce. Thats why you cant tell a big difference. But you also need mirin, and sake to make terriyaki.

Terrayaki sauce is made using soy sauce. Terrayaki is much sweeter than its bitter counter part.
