Are you talking about a product that you use in your hair to soften it temporarily like a cream or serum or are you talking about chemically texturizing? If its a cream or serum that you can put in her hair to control it temporarily, then its fine. It washes out and there's no harm done. Never do anything chemically to a child's hair that is under 8-10 years old. And even then, you should have a professional give you a consultation.
I use gel in my son's hair and he's 2 years old. His hair wouldn't stay down if I didn't... :)
Good luck

You shouldn't put any altering chemicals on a young child's scalp, most children under six have sensitive scalps and cannot take the chemical treatments. Please consider the damage that could occur and leave her with hair problems for the rest of her life. I have a three year old daughter, I'd never dream of putting anything harsher than shampoo in her hair, and she has mid back length hair, I'd never dream of damaging it even in the slightest. Besides, chemical treatments can only be done on hair if the scalp has no abrasions or scratches, how can you prevent your baby from scratching her head? I've used the grease and water technique, it works, although I hate hair grease, it softens the curl and allows to make a smooth pony tail. If you want the curls softened some you could just rinse and condition her hair at night then put it in big braids, let it dry and she'll have pretty loose ripples.

What is the length of this child's hair? I would not opt for chemicals this early.
Try using an oil based shampoo and a good moisturizing conditioner. After the hair is shampooed and conditioned, apply a little olive oil . Comb/ brush. Style.

I 'll tell you what has worked for me with my children. AFter you wash your child's hair, use pure shea butter as a grease and jojoba oil for everyday maintenance. These work like a charm, and they make the hair flourish. You can find that at any health food store. Please don't destroy your child's hair... for crying out loud she's only three years old....she's nowhere close to being ready for that kind of commitment. :-) (hope this helps)
