If there is a God, and he created us out of love, does anyone have any ideas as to why He created us?

Choice.
God created people so people could choose to love him.
To have choice God needed two things, to give people the free will to be able to choose and two things from which to choose between so God created Heaven and Hell and gave people the opportunity to choose between them.
Kind of like parents raise kids up to make good choices and then kids go do stupid things all on their own because they think their parents are dumb for not forcing them to be slaves.
PS: I see the "I want to be a slave and not give anyone the chance to make a bad choice ever again" crowd is out giving thumbs down tonight.

Why not? By trying to define His purpose we do more harm than just going with the flow. He created us to be what we are. Thats all. plain and simple. Just like a father loves his son, no matter what, God loves us for who we are.

Wanted a smaller meeker life form to manipulate and toy with?
If god created us out of love, there wouldn't be a hell.
You can't argue that an omnibenevolent god would allow hell to exist for his loved creations to suffer for all eternity.

The answer to your question is he wants to share his love his everything with us. Riches are lot nicer when you have someone to share them with. God once said I don't want your burnt offerings , I want your love. my question is do you mean why did he create us or why did he put us on this earth.

he wanted beings that could relate to him on His own level ... thats how i understand it ... we are created in His image ... not even the angels are given that status ..
