I had an adult cat and left him at home for four days. He was fine, a little distant to us when he came back but all in all it was cool. I had my brother come by every other day to feed hime and clean his litter. An option you may have is asking someone to stay at your place while you are gone, maybe a brother or sister. That way the cat has company and your home is being taken care of.

Its a god idea to leave kitty in your home instead of boarding him in a cattery - IF you can arrange for a responsible person to come in everyday to;
(1) check how kitty is doing
(2) clean the litter box
(3) lay out fresh food in a clean bowl and FRESH WATER in another clean bowl
(4) will take kitty to the vet if something goes wrong
Before you go, make your house "Cat-Safe" - think "Child-safe" - 1. Don't leave medications, household cleaners and other toxins where the cat can get to them.
2. Remove all strings, yarns, rubber bands, etc that the kitten may chew on or ingest - can cause serious intetinal blockages
3. Make sure all windows and doors are securely locked and kitten-proofed
4. Leave your Vet's telephone number and your emergency number to the person who is going to stop by and feed your kitten while you are away.
Have a happy and safe trip!

Definitely have your friends come over once a day to put down fresh water and fresh food. But unless your cat is incredibly social, they will avoid the visitors. Leave little toys is likes to play with scattered around, and have your sitters put out some fresh catnip a couple of times. Make sure to keep the blinds up in his favorite window.
I have 4 cats. Last time i was out of town for that long one was glad to see us. One didn't care. One took great pains to show me she was ignoring me (seriously), and one stayed in hiding for two more days. Then they all returned to normal. So who knows what will happen to your cat. You should consider getting a professional cat sitter (that's what I do), it costs about 15 dollars a day. But they will anything you need and play and pet the kitten for about 30 minutes per day.

He will be better off at home, it stresses them a lot less, and at 6 months, he will be sleeping most of the time.
Everyone has given great suggestions, as long as the friend comes to feed him, and check up on him, go for it.
Also - please go out and buy those door stops that you can get so that little kids can't slam their fingers shut. They are made of foamy stuff, and you either put it on the side, or the top of the door.
We left our two brats once, and when the person came to feed them, they had managed to shut themselves in the bedroom, even though we had used a dumb-bell to keep the door in the open position!
Also, leave the radio on, so there are human voices, and get some of his kitty treats, and hide them in obscure places so that he's got something to keep him busy.
Our cats have gotten so good, they manage to find every last one!

I left my cat at home over Christmas for 10 days. I hired a professional cat sitter to come every 2 days, change the food and clean out the litter box. The sitter left me a note for everyday she came. In all she only saw my cat once, as it jumped off my bed and went under it. She recommended the every other day. I was planning on every day, but she said with my cat being young and healthy, every other should be fine and it was. I hope this helps.

I would try leaving him over night before the big trip to see how he does. My current cat does better home alone than at the vet.
Hire a pet sitter to come in every couple of days to clean poop and play with him.

I've been a cat owner for over 20 years and I've left my cats for up to 10 days by themselves. As long as you have someone come by and make sure they have food, water and a clean litter box, they will be fine. We recently went on a cruise and left out 5 month old kitten for 9 days. He was happy to see us when we got home, and he wasn't at all upset about being left by himself. He had his toys and food.

I left my cats often for long weekend trips. They're fine as long you can provide enough water and dry food. Usually they will spend time sleeping anyway. If you're friend could come every 2nd day to clean his litterbox and refill the water and food, it will be great. We also had a neighbour did it for us if we're gone longer than 2 days.
Or, you can also send him to a pet hotel. Just ask your vet. Usually it costs about $10/day more or less depends where you live.

I did a few months ago, I got my grandparent's to take car of my adult cat JJ for the weekend , cause I went to disneyland with my family and boyfriend for my 19th birthday , but I asked this question , and pepole told me , you could leave them at a pet hotel, or your vet , they will feed them and give them water, all you had to do was pay them, or you can hire a pet sitter to stay at your house and take care of them and watch them for you, but at a price, or you can get one of your friend's that live near you, to check on your cat and feed them , change thier litter, and feed then food and water.
