Symantec is the foremost leader is virus protection. If it's just virus protection. I would recommend Norton Anti-Virus. In today's world, however, there is spyware, pop-ups, spamming, phishing, and a lot of other stuff. I would recommend Norton Internet Security 2007. I had issues with my computer in which other Anti-Virus programs appeared as supposedly "virus cleaners" but kept hijacking my browser and spamming me. NIS 2007 did the trick. Got rid of everything, scans the computer for threats, and updates multiple times every week to keep your PC secure.
Hope this helps!
