He was crucified on Thursday. He spent three nights in the grave: Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night. The problem is the Bible says the day after the crucifixion was a sabbath, and that makes every one think that the next day had to be Saturday. However, I checked in the Pentateuch )the five first books of the Bible) and found that the word Sabbath was sometimes used for special holy days, particularly of the Passover. The Passover sabbath did not depend on the 7 days of the week, it was a special extra sabbath. That's why the women didn't get to the grave till Sunday morning: They had to remain where they were during the two sabbaths: the special one for passover, which was on Friday that year, and the normal one on Saturday.

Well, let's see. At the time of christ, the earth was flat, the sun went around the earth, and we didn't know there were seven other planets(and whatever pluto is considered now). We didn't know that it took 365.25 days to go around the sun, and that there was the need to for a leap year every four years. So, why would you expect that people of that time used the Sunday - Saturday week in the first place?
