I want to preface this by saying that i'm a Catholic.

Ok... Basically, we have quite a bit of scientific evidence that says the universe is 14 or so billion years old and that the earth is 4.6 billion years old. You know... Things like dinosaur fossils that are over 65 million years old. How can the world be only a couple of thousand years old in that case?!

And if you are a creationist, do you believe and follow everything else the bible says... Have you READ the book of leviticus lately?!

I mean, do you sacrifice pidgeons, doves and lambs when you sin?! or offer up your grain? If you are a woman, do you stay away from men folk for seven days before and after menstruating (apparently while menstruating you are "unclean" according to the bible)???
Do you eat pork and shell fish? Again, a BIG bible no no!!!

It just seems to me that if you believe in the book of genesis to the letter that it would be a bit hypocritical of you not to follow the rest of the bible so closely?!

Yes thanks I am aware of what Pope John Paul II said. I believe it too.

LOL, to the guy who "burst my bubble", the King James Version of the Bible is the only true one?! LOL!!! The Catholic church has been around since around 330 AD or so, and the KJV since when? The time of King James? A couple of hundred years?!

And Catholics don't change the bible to suit themselves. No more than Jesus did when he said that certain sacrifices in the Old Testament didn't have to be followed any more.

And ok, EVEN IF Jesus was the ulimate Sacrifice, do you eat pork and shell fish, wear garments out of two manmade products, and fraternise with menstruating women? Cos the bible says all these are wrong! You may not need to sacrifice things, but you still have to follow that! Please explain!!!

If it's in the Holy Word of God it's from God and it's true and I believe it. Only fools will question the Bible.

Absolutely, but not literally. I think a small portion of it are parables or fables, and some of it is metaphorical.

On the age of the earth thing, God did say that a day is like a thousand years to Him in the Bible. And then again, you don't know exactly how much time a thousand years is to Him. So the fact that the universe and everything was created in six days and how long Adam and Seth and all the people in Genesis lived could be literal or metaphorical.

Also, the unclean thing is from the Old Testament, which only applied to people living before Jesus's time, particularly the Israelites.

First part of your question: The age of the earth. I don't find any conflict with the Genesis account of the Bible and most of the evolution theory (and btw, I'm a Southern Baptist). If you look at Genesis, Chap. 1 tells of creation, Chap. 2 is basically a rehash, then in Chap. 3 it begins with the story of that infamous conversation between Eve and the serpent. So .... how long were they in the Garden?

Whoever added the number of years from known history backwards to Adam and Eve never took account of that time period, because there is no time mentioned. Could have been a week, could have been 3 million years. After all, what did God tell Eve? "Eat of the tree and you shall die" ... so basically, that meant that until she actually ate of it, she would NOT die, right? How long did that take her?

2nd part of your question: Obeyance of Leviticus rules. To understand why God even gave those rules, you have to understand the situation of the peoples to whom the rules were given. You would then know that the pigs in those days ate nothing but refuse and sewage ... would YOU eat a pig under those conditions? ewww. You are in the middle of the desert, would YOU eat crab? Of course not, crab must be cooked alive or it's spoiled, we know that now.

The point is, the rules were not meant to oppress the people, not meant to keep them from enjoying a nice pork chop now and then, they were to keep the Jews alive and healthy. Those who continue to obey those laws which are not needed now do so out of rememberance and reverance for those times.

Don't make it out to be more than it is.

Jesus came to reestablish a new church, in which men are not required to sacrifice anything, or offer up grains. Jesus paid the price for that.

Carbon dating is not always correct. A study at a major university proved this. Scientists were given a recently (100 years old) fossil, and they dated it to be 45 billion years old.

All of the "unclean" practices are part of the old church.

Have you read the Bible? The sacrifices stopped when Jesus dies on the cross! Why do you think the temple curtain tore in two? It was saying that we no longer need to go through a preist or anything like that to go with God. And the whole thing about eating changed when God came in a vision and told them that everything was clean and they could eat it: Do some reading my good man!

And the whole dating of those fossils is based on circular reasoning: They date the fossils by what layer they find it in. They date the layer by fossil, doesn't make sense circular reasoning anf the other thing is radiocarbon dating: This is based on the Geologic Column (above) which is not true and does not support any suffient evidence: Thus we don't know hoe old the world is except through the Bible which holds the geneology that dates roughly six thousand years ago:

What an excellent question you have asked.

You are correct in the age of the earth 4.6 billion years old and the universe is celebrating its 15 billionth big year! With over two gazillions burgers served! mmm

But on the serious side of your question, there is evidence that the book of Genesis was written in the circa of 4000BCE by a race of people known as the Sumerians. This evidence is indisputable as the Sumerian kept excellent records on clay tablets and then fired them into stone.

Scholars from around the world are studying this race that came out of no where with a written language, society with government, laws, morals, bureaucracy, deep knowledge of our solar system, time as we measure it today.

The most interesting tablets that have been discovered are the ones called the chronicles of earth.

These tablets describe the creation of earth and our solar system, Adam and Eve, the garden of E.Din, as they spelled it and two super humans named Enki and Enlil.

One we know as Jesus and the other as the devil or Satan.

What is interesting about this book, is how it differs from the bible when we think of the creation of man and the garden of E.Din

According to the Sumerian texts, Enki believed man should have free will and Enlil wanted man to be subservient to him with no knowledge of life or understanding of any knowledge beyond being told what to do. Slavery if you like.

The term the Sumerians had for these people literally translates into "from heaven to earth they came"

It was Enki who according to the Sumerians created man in his image after a couple of unsuccessful attempts. He then used his DNA and that of a female of their race to create who we are today.

That’s why there is no missing link, never was. His lab in our terms was located in Africa, and his symbol was two snakes climbing what can only be described by viewing the tablets as the perfect structure of what we know to be the complete DNA of humanity.

A medical lab with snakes as its symbol, sound familiar?

There are also a great many more interesting discoveries this mysterious civilization gave us and new discoveries are made as more and more of the tablets are translated.

Another interesting fact of the Sumerians is that their language cannot be linked to any language known or dead.

If you are open minded and would like to have a better understanding of our real history on the planet, I suggest you do some research of the Sumerians and study what the academic world is starting to comprehend about our beginnings on earth.

The bible does seem somewhat of a big riddle. It is full of contradictions and nonesensical ideas. But I do think it contains truth and that much of it is symbolic and can have many meanings. I do not know if I can say though, that I believe in the infallibility of the bible. It is written by humans after all. And also, different translations actually have different messages in subtle and not so subtle ways. One would have to learn latin and greek to study the scriptures properly.

The Lord quoted from every book of the OT except Ester. Since He put His approval on each I believe them yes. The New Testament we have His promise that Heaven and earth will pass away but His word will never pass away. If you want to mistrust the Lord Jesus you do so as for me and mine we will serve the Lord... Jim

As a Catholic, you are no doubt familiar with the church's position as described by Pope John Paul II that the Bible is not to be taken as a literal description of scientific reality, but rather as an illustration of the correct relationship between man and God.

When Jesus came and was sacrificed, He made a NEW covenant with His people. One that only requires faith in Him, none of this sacrificing stuff or needing to be "clean" or "unclean." His laws are written on our hearts now.

I'm not convinced that Genesis is 100% the way it happened in real life. Still Christian, still creationist, but not 100% on Genesis.

I'm Seventh day Adventist.

I do believe all the word in Bible. I know catholics change the Bible for their convenience and that's the truth. Also catholics change the sabbath day from Saturday to Sunday. you can ask your priest and he will say yes.

about the sacrifice of the dove,pigeons,...you don't have to do that anymore because you can COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE to ask forgiveness.( means, you can pray anywhere anytime directly to GOD) and you don't have to go to a priest to confessed your sins.

and no i don't eat pork because pork don't have pores so they don't have a way to release all the dirt in their system but through their behind which they eventually eat,and your not supposed to eat animals with split toes.

i don't eat sea foods like shell, clams, lobster, shrimp because they are the scavengers of the sea, they eat all dirt and again they don't have ways to clean their system.

does the catholic preach this to you? maybe not, because all i know is that the catholic change the bible for their convenience.

You need to have a good Bible study because on all your question it seems like your church is not feeding you. i don't mean to be rude but it's time to re evaluate how your church or you feed your soul.
