Bri,
Well, it's never a good idea to "trick" your parents....for one thing its not respectful but for another they've been around a long time and know all the tricks in the book :)
Your parents may have good reasons for not allowing a dog (allergies, money, or if it is allowed if you rent and don't own your home).
If you are REALLY committed to having a dog, then sit down with your mom & dad and explain to them calmly that really would like to have a dog, and then tell them EXACTLY what you are willing to do to care for the dog. Dogs require alot of care and money. Parents are well aware that most kids will promise the world to get a dog, but then fail to live up to those promises once the dog has been around awhile.
If your parents see that you don't keep up on your homework or your room (not saying you don't) then they may not think you are responsible enough to care for a dog.
If you truly feel in your heart you responsible enough to own a dog...perhaps try researching a breed online...not all small dogs are created euqal. Some have more grooming, exercise & training needs.
Perhaps you could suggest to your parents that you are willing to do some extra chores around the house or yard to help "pay" for the dogs upkeep.
If your parents see that you've done your "homework" on finding the right breed of dog for the family (try www.breedinfo.com), if they see that you are responsible for your normal chores around the home...and if they see that you have a plan on how to properly care for the dog...they may fell better about allowing you to have one.
If you parents still say no, maybe you could ask them exactly what the reasons are for saying no...this may help you to answer their concerns about you getting a dog.
Wish you the best hon :)

Dogs are a lot of work.
Do you go to school? If so, your parents may not want to look after your dog when it is suppose to be your resposiblity.
Do you have a job or money? If not, your parents probobly won't want to pay for a dog, they are expensive, you know.
You should try and take more resposibilities around your house and do other things to please your parents, that may help with their decision, but I doubt it.
Respect their decision. If you keep begging, the only reason you'd get a dog is because they are annoyed with you. Just give it some time and don't pout about it. That will just anger them. Would you rather have a dog or your parents mad at you?

ya i agree with jackie m ( but i dont think the grade thing works unless your a low student) tshow that you're responisible trust me their is no other way it really works but then when you've got the dog dont slack off your parents understand that its a lot of work having a dog and they probably will say they will end up doing all the work trust me you say that you want a dog really bad but then you end up not keeping your part of the bargain try doing chores and things that they would normally have to ask you to do when it comes to christmas or your birthday then hint that you want a dog ...but trust me you must consider all the responsibilities like- getting limited amount of sleep because your puppy is crying and/or you have to let them out- your puppy has to be potty trained/ you need to clean up if or when it goes in the house- the amount of money for shots ( it really adds up because puppies need a lot of shots)-flea medication-brush-food-treats-bones and many other things plus collar license and probably a dog tag

if you live with your mom and dad, then you probably won't be able to convince them....yet. the real trick, which is not really a trick, is to prove to them that you're responsible enough to have a pet. that means: work your butt off to get good grades. show them your next report cards full of A's. be responsible with your room and your chores. if you don't take care of those things first, chances are they won't budge...if you do, chances are, they will.
