As a long term depressed person,I would have to say yes. I don't deal with stress well and easily get sick when stressed. I developed heart disease at age 37 (female) have lung problems from smoking and am overweight. I know this accounts or alot of non depressed people but I think depressed people just don't take care of themselves like they should. I have worked in hospitals ( and been a patient) in hosptials and the ones on the psych unit all appear older than their age. Part of this may be that living on a disability check is stressful and it is sometimes hard to pay for medications. Also to pay for counseling. 90% of homeless people have some sort of mental illness. I say lets get the country educated about mental illness and have parity (equal) insurance for mental illness as medical illness. The cost to insurers with people with mental illness is higher than those that are treated for mental illness. BTW the correct term for mental illness in now "brain disorder".
