Urine is primarily composed of water, sodium, bicarbonate, nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and its coloration is provided by urobilin. Many wastes and metabolites are also excreted in urine.

Fecal matter is primarily composed of remaining food material that was not reabsorbed from the GI, or was not otherwise digestable. The same electrolytes may also be found in stool, as well as fat content and bile.
