I'm not sure if I agree with the people above, but in general we don't know enough background to really help you out. Just as a generalization (of which there are always many exceptions), beefier, stockier guys will often sprint (100, 200, 400) while long and lean ones will be the distance runners (800, 1600, 3200). HOWEVER! My distance team has all types of people and it really depends on you individually. The best thing you can do is talk to your coach and try out different events to see which fits you best. If you have a particularly strong upper body, perhaps you should throw the discus, javelin, or shot. If you can do quick bursts of speed, sprinting obviously, and if you can endure and pace yourself, try distance.
And do not fret, you're not too old to start running. It will be a wise decision- that I can gaurentee!

Yeah i would have to agree with every one else.. your Mile time is slow for a jr bud. I am a freshman... and im 5'4 146 pounds..and i run the 110 hurdles the 300 hurdles. sprint relay and mile relay... and the 400 isn't a bad thing to start with but if ya got a lot of stamina and can do the 400 in 60 seconds or less you would most likly be able to do the 300 hurdles... but it takes alot of dissaplin and Stamina.. And its really hard to give advice with just knowing your weight and such ya know.. like figure out your hundred time and stuff like that b4 you attempt to make a choice.. Dont go into track wanting or Saying your ONLY gonna do this event or that even... go in and be like im an athlete.. im here for what the team needs me for ... and who knows if your not a runner you could possibly look into shot and disk or long jump, high jump possibly poll vaulting becuz your not very big...as jr...and if you have your little belly that most likely means ya got a pretty strong upper body and thats what it takes to poll vault... well if ya need anything else my email address is jamestolson08@yahoo.com and thats also my yahoo messanger so yeah gimme a message and ill get back to ya and try and help ya...Peace out....

I am in track too. I started out in seventh grade, but im sure you could start off now. Ya if i were you i'd start out running 400s or 800s and once you get those down as fast as you can i'd try the 1600 or 3200.

I'm about your weight to buddy. I still run low 5's but Its just with practice and confidence. i'd say start with the 800m. You will get speedier and the training for that is pretty fast paced. Shot putt or other strength tests. maybe even the triple jump, high jump (cuz you are very tall)
maybe even the sprints if you are fast enough.

If you want to impress on the basketball judge with a fast remarkable vertical jump you will require this program https://tr.im/eD0PA , Vert Shock.
Basic and easy, this work out program, Vert Shock is exactly about strategy and minimizing mistakes. It helps you great your form to a level of top efficiency players like Rose and Lebron.
Thus, whether if you are previous, small, or anywhere in-between, whether you are an expert or simply an individual who likes to shoot hoops in his garage, this method is the main element to getting higher and moving better. The program requires your game to a brand-new level.

When you turn out for the team the coaches will probably know what would be a good fit for you. Like katie said you would probably be good at the 400.

if i were you i would do like a 400 or 800. your mile time is alittle bit to slow for a junior in hs.(considering im an 8th grade girl who can run it in the high 5s.)you could also do like long jump or high jump if you have good hops ;]
