It's probably fine. I mean, think about it - if you scratch your skin even just with your fingernails, it naturally reacts by maybe going a bit red, being a bit raised, feeling a bit sore. The process of getting a tattoo is like this, only more so. Your skin's been scratched and scraped. And the way it's going to react is perfectly natural - by being tender and irritated, swelling up a bit, maybe going a bit red.

Think of your new tattoo like a graze. If you had a graze that size you wouldn't be surprised by this, so don't panic just because it's a tattoo and you're worrying about it healing right. (Easier said than done, I know!) Just carry on with your aftercare regime, and within a couple of days (maybe a little longer, if it's a really big tattoo) you can expect any soreness and swelling to go down. After that, it may itch, and again, just leave it alone. Over a week or two the scabs will drop off to reveal your tattoo - although the skin still needs time to heal, and may still look a bit dry, flaky, or shiny, which may slightly affect how your tattoo looks over another couple of weeks.

If the swelling or redness continues for a long time, gets really extreme, or you have any other concerns, then go get advice from your tattoo artist/a medical professional. But for right now, so soon after having it done, I'd say it's natural and nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, if the irritation/swelling does not bother you and stays for a day or two, it's normal.

Beware of temperature or color changes on your skin around the tat, if any of these thing happen go see a doctor.

Keep up the aftercare and relax.. it's probably nothing, but keep an eye on it.

This happens to me every time; my skin swells just a bit sometimes even during the tattooing process (poor artist needs to work with my funky physiology). It goes down pretty quickly, generally within 2-3 days.

I don't tend to get it on outlining, but definitely on shading & coloring.

Yes that is ok, you have to make sure that you apply the a&d generously to the tatt so that way it will not dry out, it will probably be a little red for the first couple of days so don't sweat it I know I have like 6 tatts

it's prob fine....esp if you've only had it for one day....think of how irritated your skin is from the whole procedure. Just keep up with the aftercare and it should be fine...
