I use Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop and I beta tested Ultimate in my living room PC, laptop, and personal desktop.
I disable aero and I have no idea how that works.
It does do networking much easier. It detects other Vista machines right away and usually detects the other XP machines (although it's kind of flaky for me).
In my living room PC it instantly detects the Hauppage TV Tuner card (better than XP Media Ed.) and works with the remote flawlessly (better than XP Media or XP).
Ultimate comes with Bitlocker but not very advantageous unless everyone adopts Vista Ultimate.
It's has a collaboration tool where two Vista machines can work together (also not very advantageous unless more people have Vista installed). I haven't tried this feature yet...
It has ReadyBoost where it uses a flash drive for your cache file. This has shown to improve the performance somewhat (tomshardware.com) but not as significantly as just upgrading RAM.
It has new icons and a new look.
I think it runs faster than XP but it could just be in my head. It definitely seems to boot faster than my XP machine and my XP machine runs a faster processor and has the same amount of RAM and better video card.
It's not compatible with a lot of software. I've had problems with my EVDO card and VPN software.

It helps Microsoft stay in business... is the main reason to upgrade.
Other than that there are a few new items which make it more secure (and frustrating to use). The User controls are very good.
The original idea was to make it better than a five year old XP product. There are several enhancements (according to MS) which will make it better and "more" stable.
However, if you do a search about it you will find a whole lot of things that simply are not nice - just like when XP was released.
It needs more memory in nearly every case (the system needs 512meg for home edition) but an increase in memory was true with XP when it came out.
You may need a new video card (all the old ones dont work well)
You may need a larger HD (check visitas min. requirements)
It is not compatible with several items (at this time) like a lot of scanners, printers, remote network storage devices etc.etc.
So my advice - wait for SP1 :) (shouldnt be too long)
Of course I ran 2000 for 6 months after XP released - at least on anything mission critical.

Vista. some human beings say Vista makes use of up plenty device ram. that's authentic. Vista makes use of those ram to velocity up the computing gadget. Thats why there isn't plenty loose ram. Xp wastes those loose ram doing not something. Vista is much greater properly matched than XP than u think of it somewhat is. Vista hasn't any subject to me for a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days already. Vista is quicker whilst beginning application and beginning up the computing gadget. some human beings evaluate XP simply by fact they are too used to XP or they are gamer. it form of feels vista is slower in video games by using 2-5 fps. No massive deal. VISTa!

DSL has 3 different speeds the fastest will cost you $30. and then the price drops to $20 and $ 15.
My fried said he changed the $30 to $20 and he gets the same speed as if using XP
The major advantage is $10 every month

I dont see ANY right now! Seems like lots of PCs arent even compatible with it, lots of your old software and hardware may not run, etc! If your XP is running smoothly, why take the chance?

New OS from Microsoft. Graph is better than XP, but a lot of feature is similar to XP. I do not think it is worth the upgrade, but if it is free you should think about it.
