Mainframes are computers with huge data handling capabilities. They can handle data of so huge size and volume that products like Oracle and Sybase fail. Like all the Credit Card processing of the world is mostly done in Mainframes. So are the Stock Market transactions are processed in Mainframes. The applications of mainframes is endless and so are it data handling and data storage capabilities.

Hope this helps.
