In the Phantom of the Opera, what is that red liquid in the bottle?

What is the red liquid where that lady uses to clear her throat and the phantom switches it to make her sing bad? is that like olive oil or whatever?

The liquid that Carlotta uses in the movie is simply a spray mixture used to assist in clearing the throat when attempting to sing. We still have these sprays today, and they are sold in stores relating to the theatre and vocal arts.

i think it was just some liquid that was used to refresh her throat so she can sing well, now idk wat the phantom put in there that make her sound bad.
