It depends on the type of food. If you read the package, it should walk you through what you need to know.

what my book said when i got my puppy ( a jack russell terrier when she was 8 weeks old and will get to probably a little smaller than your dog is)was to feed it how much it can eat in 15 min. four times a day , then 3 times when their 3-6 mon. and then 2 times when their older then that.....what we did was left some food out for her all the time ( the book says not to do that because it might make them obese) but my dog hasnt had a problem with it shell take what she wants and then when she's full she'll leave ..unlike labs who are gluttons..trust me i have one and she won't object if she acciddently gets fed twice in the morning.... my jrt is a sorta pick eater she smells her food to see if someone has put any treats in her food dish ( when she gets in the house) and then if theirs no treats she waits until she's really hungry to eat then she also likes to steal food from my lab if we forget to seperate them luckily my lab is the sweetest dog ever and just gives her a little growl..the way my jrt picks on he rits a wonder that she hasnt ever bitten her

If you didn't do any research on how to take care of a dog. I suggest you take it back where you got it OR buy a book. I suggest that you should feed him Puppy chow. Any brand should do as long as it is for puppies. Take him to a Vet. and he will give his shots, test him for certain things that puppies can have and you may not be aware of. The Vet will also help you decide what kind of food he should have now and when to start him on regular diet. Puppies are like babies. Alot to learn as you go. Be sure to get him something to chew on because he is cutting his first teeth. If you don't get him anything to chew on he'll find something. Believe me ---it'll probably be something of yours that you needed or wanted to keep. Also, you might watch

one and one-third cups of dry puppy food split up two to three times daily. The bag of dog food you buy should tell you the age and amount at each stage of life. Good Luck!

Read the instructions on the dog food, and go by the
weight of your dog. I feed my dog twice a day, and they
get treats to, but not alot.

generally with puppies it's best to keep food down for them at all times, but if you need to restrict it best to go with what the bag says, it'll change depending on what type of food you're feeding him.
