She is continually chewing on her back right above her tail. I changed her food to science diet for sensative skin.about 4 mon. ago and her coat looked a whole lot better and her chewing almost stopped. But now she is starting to chew alot more frequent. She has been on steriods before but I hate to put her back on them. I also heard that the science diet food is corn base and could be causing some allergy problems also. Can someone recommend a good food for her that might help her out? Thanks for any replies.

We had an aussie that chewed raw areas (hot spots) on her backside. We talked to the vet and did the pill thing for a while but as with you, it always started back up.

We finally found relief when we added 1 to 2 tablespoons of melted bacon grease to her food. The extra grease kept her skin from getting so dry. It was actually the only thing we found that worked. When I told the vet, he said to keep it up. If it worked it was sure less invasive than giving her medication.

We fed her a dog food I'm not sure you can get unless you are near a Southern States store. It was called Big Red. It had a high oil content as well as a high protein content and was created for hunting dogs.

BTW: I wanted to just add that I envy you having an Australian Shepherd. I had a blue eyed blue merle that I loved dearly. She was the best dog I ever had. We finally had to put her to sleep at the age of 15 when she was deaf and could no longer make it outside before wetting herself. She felt so badly for wetting the floor (we NEVER punished her) that I couldn't put her through anymore accidents that she had no control over.

Love your dog dearly.........you won't be sorry They are a very special breed of dog.

champagne, caviar, and long gentle massages with a creme that has hydrocortisone. Tell her that you love her and want to have her children. Baths with gentle vinegar will help, too, and you will both enjoy them. Candles and incense, please!

She is nervous. It happens. There is little you can do unless after vet scrutiny and mortgaging your assets can find the problem. Most will send you off with a cortisone shot and a slap on the back. It's up to you, you are the sugar Daddy.

Here is the beginning of your salvation, one of the top veterinary colleges in the US that actually cares enough to put some knowledge out there on the web.

Try some good old fashioned home cooking and none of that preservative laden crap on the shelves. Chickken livers, polenta, liver, all good.

Lovu you, babe. Adopt more. Home of twenty two cats, two horses and one ox, all loved, never disregarded.

Steriods are undesirable for canines, begging, consistently hungry, getting fat, temper swings and merely an all around butch b*tch. If its a heeler, i'm afraid that hypersensitive reactions are area and parcel of that breed. If its a shepard or sheltie, then which you ought to to evaluate if its a sensitivity to fabrics eg carpet. prepare dinner her nutrition your self, lean lamb, turkey and chicken mince, rice thats cooked so properly its falling aside and uncooked grated carrot, uncooked grated broccoli stem, shredded spinach(steamed), uncooked peas and grated uncooked apple, and upload a uncooked egg daily. Or examine out the B.A.R.F. weight loss plan. My doberman has undesirable pores and skin issues, so undesirable she replaced into recieving weekly cortisone photos. The uncooked veges are the desirable, uncooked carrot is excellent for the floor, as is the apple, and the others are sturdy organic iron materials. in case you may get carry of a few, use some emu oil on the bare patches(costly yet great). It lubricates and barriers the floor and if there is any mites or creepy crawlies it is going to kill them. additionally upload some zinc pills to her weight loss plan, additionally sturdy for a canines pores and skin.
