I hear objections such as "It couldn't happen by chance" ((chance plays a very minute role))...Or "Science is proving evolution wrong" ((which is simply false, although pseudo-scientists are trying))...
Why hasn't this issue been settled?

Is this a misunderstanding about the word "theory"?

Haha, I'm not new Jedi. I get random bursts of energy when I feel like I may just educate one person with enough information.

Because it proves that the bible pure Bullsh*t.
Once xianity is dead, and that won't be to long from now seeing that it is dying, everyone will except evotion as the scientific fact that it is. Until then the brainwashed followers of the Xian CULT will continue to fail to prove that the truth (evolution) is wrong.
I see you're one of those Star Wars nuts. Get a life.

low standards in the educational system?
I don't think there are many countries in which it is such an issue as it is in the US. Look at the graph in the first link provided.
the statement of the original paper is:"The acceptance of evolution is lower in the United States than in Japan or Europe, largely because of widespread fundamentalism and the politicization of science in the United States." (second link)
If you look at the last link you can see a clear positive correlation of acceptance of evolution with increasing education, but also a clear correlation with political orientation. If you are republican fundamentalist who only finished high school you are basically obliged to believe evolution doesn't exist.

Because it is taught in schools that it really did occur rather then teaching it as a theory. If people taught the bible in school (which will never happen) they will find that the creation theory is actually more scientific then evolution.
-Law of BioGenesis
Spontaneous generation has never been observed. All observations have shown that life comes only from life. This has been observed so
consistently it is called the law of biogensis. The theory of evolution conflects with the scientific law by claiming that life came from nonliving matter through natural process.
Chemical Elements of Life
-Carbon, Oxygen and Nirtogen are the building blocks of life. If the early Earth had Oxygen in its atmosphere then amino acids needed for life to evolve would of been distroyed by oxidation. If there were no Oxygen then there would of been no Ozone to shield the Earth from the sun's radiation which would distroy all life.
-Acquired Characteristics
Acquired Characteristics connot be inherited. For example, the long neck of giraffes did not result from thier ancestors stretching thier necks to reach high leaves. Nor can large muscles acquired by a man weight-lifting program be inherited by his child. However in hostile environments a few types of animals and plants can express defences into thier offspring. This genetic trait has not been created rather simple turned on a genetic machinery that is already present.
-Natural Selection
Natural selection cannot produce "NEw" genes, it only selects among preexisting characterics. As the word "selection" implies, variations are reduced, not increased.
-Mendel's Law
The variations Darwin observed among finches on differnt Galapagos islands is a example of Mendel's Law. Mendle discovered that genes are merely reshuffled from one generation to another. Different "combinations" are formed, not differnt genes. These variations are seen within every kind of life, such as in the dog family (differnt breeds of dog).
-Distinct Types
If evolution happened, one would expect to see gradual transitions among many living things. However, some animals such as the duckbilled platypus have organs totally unreleated to their alleged evolutionary ancestors. Such patch work animals and plants have no logical place on the evolutionary tree.
--Languages
Childern as young as seven months old understand grammatical rules. Studies of childern raised with out human contact suggest that language is learned only from other humans. Humans do not automatically speak.
Humans can "teach" apes to use sign language but once they die thier offspring do not know any of the sign language its parent was taught.

They've deliberately locked themselves into a misunderstanding of the theory because they don't WANT to understand it. Statements like "evolution is false because a fish has never morphed into a reptile" make no sense -- but that's exactly the point. As long as people convince themselves that that's what evolution says, they'll have an excuse to reject it.

The issue hasn't been settled because neither side has any "proof" that their belief is true. Maybe someday we'll have the proof we need, though even then, I'm sure the opposing side will refuse to believe it. It's going to be a LONG time before any REAL proof is found--probably not in our lifetime. There's a lot of examination, studying, and experimentation left to do.

I think a lot of creationists are simply too stupid to understand the science.
And others are threatened that science will bring down their religion like the house of cards that it is.

hmmm. Perhaps it's because people are ignorant and horribly misinformed?
They don't even understand it, or try to learn it, they just assume they know what it's about, decide they can't wrap their head around the concept, even left unstudied, and revert back to their cave man instinct that a sky king must have done it all.

Well-funded anti-evolution propaganda groups which employ lots of professional liars,
Evolution is simply hard to understand, particularly because it requires you to overcome your natural egotism,
It threatens a long-standing and very well-organized social institution.

lol...are you knew?
It's never that easy with evangelists. Blind faith is blind for a reason...they procure half-truths to support their faith, as well as using illogical arguments. Brainwashing is the opposite of truth, so even science has difficulty breaking down dogma. Simply because the believers choose ignorance.

some seem to find it too complicated in even it's simplest form, some seem to not know what they are arguing against, some are too closed minded to understand it, some don't want to understand it, some are so sure it's wrong they don't even bother finding out what it is, simply assuming it's "something about monkeys turning into humans, so are they insulting me?".
not too many actually don't believe it but understand it.
