well a few minutes ago i was outside playing soccer in my driveway...my cat normally comes outside with me and i didn't want to be out alone so i brought her with me. When i was gunna go inside, i call 4 my cat. I wasn't scared because she's stubborn and normally doesn't come out right away. Then a few minutes later she runs out of my bushes with a huge black cat behind her. I go over and they're hissing at each other. I threw my soccer ball at it and scared it away. Then my cat started hissing at me and ran in the house without saying anything. Normally she is very social....i don't know if she physically got hurt or if it's just her pride...HELP!!

That's OK and very normal. It is called displaced aggression when your cat hisses at you after seeing or smelling another cat or animal. She isn't mad at you nor is she suddenly becoming aggressive. As soon as she has time to calm down, she'll be back to her normal sef. My cat growls and hisses a lot when we go walkies outside and he smells dog scents on the sidewalk. If I pick him up, he'll be growling at me and sometimes hissing. When we come back indoors, he's fine and loving etc...

She was very upset and in a bad mood..thats why she hissed at you. Think of it this way...lets say you are in a really bad mood, dont you sometimes take it out on others you care about without even realizing it?

The black cat made your kitty go into "attack mode".When kitties are riled up by other cats, it takes them a little while to settle back to their sociable, tame selves.

It sounds as though you didn't hear any fighting, so your kitty is probably unharmed. When she comes to you, check her over to make sure she isn't injured in any way.

Good luck to you, and I hope this helps! :)

umm....maybe your cat was mating, and just needed to be alone after her "experience"....my cats have hissed at me after a fight, i think that it is mainly pride that they are looking out for. i would just leave your cat alone for a little while and just let her calm down. Good Luck! ( :

Maybe she thought it was her fight and you interfered. We had a huge territorial male cat that we had to rescue all the neighborhood cats from. He would get furious at us. I don't know if a female would be like this though.

Well it could be that your cat is in heat. The other cat was probably a male cat coming around to breed with her.

Your kitty is a little frazzled is all it seems like. Make sure she's got no injuries. Good luck!

She's just shaken up from the confrontation. Let her calm herself down.
