that MOS is fire support specialist if that helps. I knew I wanted a combat MOS and field artillery seemed better than infantry. I've read the descripiton but I'm just curious as to what day to day will be like in a FA team.

You'll be with the infantry, calling for artillery strikes at targets in your vicinity. Adjusting fires on those targets, proccessing that data into a computer terminal for digital transmission to a fire direction element, and waititng for the results. Quite fun actualy :)

Am sure someone will pop on here and give ya the book answer, but I'll see ya here when you arrive at Sill, work with all the new 13F's coming in.

A Fire Support Specialist is a member of the Army's field artillery team. Artillery are weapons that fire large ammunition or missiles to support infantry and tank units in combat. The Fire Support Specialist is primarily responsible for leading, supervising or serving in intelligence activities such as target processing, division artillery and maneuver brigade.

Here are some duties of a Fire Support Specialist:

* Establish, maintain and operate communications systems
* Encode and decode messages
* Assist in preparing and disseminating fire support plans, coordinate documents and target lists
* Assist in the operation of laser range finders, target designation and night observation devices
* Determine target location using computers or manual calculations

For the most you will be calling in the artillery support that requires the use of the Howitzers and MLRS systems. Those suckers sure can shoot. Regular artillery support will often times fome from the Mortar section of a company or a battalion.

You will be attached to the Forward elements of an Infantry Unit within sight of the enemy. It will be your job to aquire targets for the Artillery to Fire at. If you wanted a dangerous job you got it.

I agree with the dude above that you will be with the grunts calling in strikes...when I was a marine we did that ourselves, either the platton commander or squad leaders, or if necessary fire team leader...or CO if you were out in Company strength. As for it being fun...it's all good until the indians start shooting back...then the "war is hell" quote goes into affect...good luck. If you get into the shooting all I can suggest is to steel yourself.

In this day and age, I'm thinking a lot of computer work, map reading and terrain analysis. 13-B's are the ones who actually "crew the cannons", I think you'll probably be analyzing data that's called in and then sending fire missions out to the gun crews.
