I got a kangaroo scrotum from Melbourne Airport (you should be able to get them in any souvenir shop)

It's shaped into a leather pouch, with no seams! It's very novelty & gets a laugh whenever I show people.

Australia's opals are unmatched. My only regret is that I didn't buy more.

I like vegemite with cheese (just a little vegemite!) I really enoyed the fresh fruits. And those cheap, available-at-every-corner meat pies with "sauce".

I also enjoyed learning Camp Drafting, but I don't recommend that unless you're at least an intermediate horseback rider with years of experience. If you are, DON'T MISS IT!

However, my favorite Australian gem is Banjo Patterson. A poet of unusual skill in spinning a ballad unique to the land he lived in. He catches the spirit of Australia so well. His work is well worth bringing home if you have any interest in reading at all. And even if you don't.

And for goodness sake, get out of the cities!!! You won't truely see and experience Australia until you're in the small towns and off the tourist track.

opals - australia has the best opals, or a stubby holder. My english friend loves stubby holders, brought about 36 of them whilst he was travelling australia, and now we mail him a few every month or so, he said that when his mates come around they love nothing more than drinking there beer with a stubby holder.
