Atheism as "The belief that there is no God." Worse yet, this brief line is then followed by a quote from Francis Bacon: "A little philosophy inclineth men's minds to atheism, but depth in philosophy bringeth men's mind to religion." And it gets worse. The same dictionary describes the Atheist as "one who believes that there is not God," and then quotes Young, saying "By night an atheist half believes a God."
Advocates in the wisdom of religious belief are even less generous in their assessment of the Atheist. The latter is described by the Vatican as a "significant problem," fundamentalist Christians portray Atheism as something akin to communism, perhaps spiced up with the exotica of pornography, drug abuse and moral debauchery. A candidate for President of the United States (Pat Buchanan), mentioned Atheists in the same breath as terrorists. Is it any wonder that the popular media is often the least productive place in finding out about Atheism?

The qoute is true atheism is not a religion. Atheisim is a though that there is no God no kind of diety. A religion has to have a diety. Look at all the religions: Christianity, Islam, Buddihm(is that how you spell it if not sry), Hindu: they all have a diety that is why atheism is not a religion.

False ......
If (a hobby is logically equal to religion) and (Collecting coins is Logically equal to Christianity (or any religion)).
Then (Atheism (A thinking of not believing in god) is not a religion) should be logically equivalent to (Not Collecting Coins is NOT a hobby).

I think that religion is the search and worship of a god, speaking in general, so since Atheism claims that there isn't a God a suppose it isn't a religion. More of a belief than a religion.

False. I believe that Atheists and Agnostics believe that their independence of organized religion makes them be non religious. But aren't they organized? Don't they have specific beliefs? By definition, the word religion is "an objective pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion." American Heritage Dictionary. Each time I've ever chanced upon a so called Atheist, they refuse to even listen to any other information but insist on selling their own agenda. That sounds like a religious zealot to me.

Agreed. It's NOT a religion... I'm an atheist, and I abhor religion... if atheism were a religion, then that'd make me a total hypocrite, a role I leave for all the Christians and Bible-thumpers to fill. *smiles*

I would say that is a valid analogy. One that I use all the time is "saying atheism is a religion is like saying bald is a hair color."

Atheism is a belief, not religion.
Religion implies some sort of God, the very thing that atheists don't
believe in.

False. Many self-proclaimed Atheists are passionately against collecting coins, in those terms, and many systematically study and follow strict disciplines to support their rationale
that collecting coins is detrimental(bad/evil) for people and should be struggled against at any cost. This sounds religious to me. Why do they
pretend to be neutral?
