if proof that god didnt exist, manifested itself into physical shape, perhaps that of a ninja, preceeded to round house kick them in the jaw, then urinate on them, would they still deny it?

There can be no proof one way or the other. But the Christian belief structure is based on faith. Without proof. In the Old Testament they were testing God all the time--putting sponges on the ground and having God one day not let any rain/dew fall on the sponge and the next day no dew/rain on the grass around it. God got tired of it. So with Jesus he made it important that they don't test him anymore.

It's based on just faith and prayer. You pray and the answers can be 1) yes and it happens 2) no and it doesn't happen or 3) wait and it doesn't happen. (Now an atheist can argue that saying "no" or "wait" is just a way of justifying that God still exists when clearly either he doesn't or he is ignoring you)

But even if you had physical proof--it would be viewed as a Test. I mean as a child I was scared to death of being a good Christian b/c of poor Job. See he was good and God decided to destroy him in every way possible. Thats what you get for believing too strongly. But what you would see as physical proof there is no God, they would see as Satan's Test of Faith.

You seem to want to disillusion these christians but have you thought of the consequences? Some people need that crutch to lean on. Some people need to know that it's out of their control, thats is part of a master plan--or they would go crazy/suicidal. Many need that threat of eternal hell b/c the justice system just doesn't do it for them and without a fear of ever-after they would be have no moral structure at all. You hear that in the snobbish way some say "Christian morals" as if Jews, Muslims and Pagans run around like vandals and street thugs.

I'm a firm believer that religion has its place and is quite necessary. Just b/c I don't happen to need a crutch, doesn't mean crutches shouldn't exist.
