Use a card like this for 6 to 12 months and it'll build your credit history.

BUT only spend a little each month and pay it off in full, they all charge higher interest rates than other cards, the price you pay for them being easier to get.

After 12 months you should be able to get a standard (lower interest) card.

Start w/ a debit card and use it like a credit card. Then you should be able to get a credit card with low limit. Its usually easiest to get those through your bank. Almost every bank has a credit card that they sell. Some banks in the US offer a special type of card to people building credit, its a secured credit card here is how it works: You pay like $300 and that amount stays in the credit card. You can then use the card how you wish up to $300. After 6 months if you make payments and don't go over it becomes a regular credit card. That's how i got my first credit card. Ask your bank if they do something similar in the UK.
