I met this guy who is 29 years old on a reputable dating site . I'll call him "Aaron." Aaron and I have been talking everyday for the last couple weeks and talking on the phone. He seems like a genuine guy. He even told me he was arrested for a minor infraction. Nothing to raise alarm. I'm very interested in him and he is very interested in me. Though I am 18 years old. Do you think this is wrong? What would you do? Do you think age matters?

He also has a 4 year old son.

*Mature answers only please*

I don't think age is always a factor that should get in the way of two people having a relationship. The measure of a person is truly not their age but the level of maturity and the common sense to know right from wrong. If two people, regardless of age, find the common ground between them which affords a foundation to build anonest relationship on then who really cares about age?

Yes age does matter. Even though there are some instances of people with 11 years difference, it lasts because the two were in their 30's and 40's. Experience will definitely change your attitude about life over the next 10 years trust me! Your goals, dreams, and expectations will seem like night and day from where you are now to where you will be at 28. This guy at 29 has already experienced a few changes and will have a little bit different outlook than what you have. This can impact how solid a relationship is. I'm not trying to imply that you are too immature, I am only trying to get you to see there are vast differences in the minds of people in a decade's difference of age. Dating might not hurt, but it will usually lead you into becoming more serious and that is where you might run into the problems of you not living through the same things that he has already. Think hard before jumping into that much age difference.

Lots of alarms here. Although it could work out you have to consider the age difference. His priorities and yours would most definitely collide. He has a child to care for and you are still young with a lot of room for growing up on your own. Age does matter. You are fresh out of highschool, his 10 year graduation just has passed by. It wouldn't do you any harm to keep the relationship friendly but beware if you pursue a relationship. Your teenage years would come to a screaming halt if you developed a serious relationship and the possibility of your friends disbanding you are quite high.

I would be careful of his past, I'm not saying that he is dangerous. Just make sure that he has changed from the person he was when he got in trouble.

As for his child, it doesn't matter as long as you get to know the child if the relationship gets serious. It is important that you can get along with his child.

Age doesn't matter as long as you both are mature. Take things one day at a time, don't rush things to go a step further than they need to.

I honestly feel like you should have someone else check him out or something...before u meet him. alot of ppl say the ppl they meet online seem nice, but then they end up having something bad about them. and the being arrested thing and having a child, while being single sounds fishy. be careful.

Well, it is a big age gap, but if you guys are into each other that much, then I would consider giving it a chance.

Any questions?? E-mail me.
