One of my best friends told me recently that she's anorexic.

She used to be around 146 pounds.

And now she told me that she's down to 118 pounds. [within a period of three and a half months she lost this weight]
To begin with, she wasn't overweight, she was perfect. (she's pretty tall)

I did a BMI with her height and weight, and she's underweight now!!

None of her clothes fit her...at all!
She still thinks that she's fat too.

One more thing...I swore on my life that I wouldn't tell anyone

How can I get her some help? And get her to stop seeing herself as fat?

And what will happen if I don't do anything at all?

Please help !!

Her parents already know about it, but they don't know what to do/have done nothing

First off dear, If you don't do anything, she will lose more weight, become even more unhealthy and her chance of getting very sick or even dying goes up as time goes by.

I highly suggest you talk to someone.

If you two ladies are in high school of middle school, I would suggest talking to a councilor or two and also the principle of vise Principle.

I would talk to her family as well, and make sure they are aware as to what is occurring with their daughter.

Lastly, I would talk to her. See why she thinks she is fat. Speak to her about your concerns. Explain to her that what she is doing is a horrible thing to do to your body. From there, I would do some research with her, or bring research to her about the disease. And finally, I would do some things with her that will boost her self-confidence.

An example of this would be make-overs, 'boy-hunting' things of that nature.

But dear, you should speak with someone and get help for this girl. This disease does kill...regularly.

Best of luck to you and your friend dear, this is going to be one heck of a fight for you and her.

This is a tough 1 but i'd adviseyou 2 tell someone, her parents or a teacher or a responsible adult. She will prob stop speaking 2 you 4 a while but if she carries on being anorexic and doesnt get the help she needs then you could lose her forever, anorexia can and does kill! The fact that she has confided in you means that she has realised that she needs help and is seeking it. x

i can't believe her parents haven't noticed. that is fast weight loss. Either call her parents (do it from a payphone if you don't want them to know it's your #) and tell them or maybe a school counselor or you parents. What will happen if you don't tell is that she may die. She needs more help than you can give her and if you are really her friend you will help her not keep her secret. Even if she is mad at you, you will have done the right thing by getting her the help she needs she can't fight this alone.

her parents need to take her to the Dr. and he will recommend a psychiatrist that is where you go to get help for anorexia
