The vaccination hypothesis is bogus. Autism is a genetic condition. The Amish breed exclusively with each other so no new genes are introduced into their genepool. If they have very little or no incidence of Autism, there isn't much chance they ever will.
That being said, there probably are some Amish with developmental disabilities. They do not typically seek out the services of behavioral health specialists and get diagnosis. Much of America was like this a few decades ago. Many people were considered a little quirky or somewhat strange when they actually would fall on to the autistic spectrum by todays diagnostic criteria.

The ignorance of people when it comes to cultures they don't understand boggles me sometimes.
For all of you people who say that Amish do get autism, but they hide it, that's not really true.
We have census data for many other illnesses with the Amish that they don't hide, including mental and genetic diseases, but autism shows up very very rarely...

Who said they don't. they keep to themselves and their problems are delt with at home. The Amish do have a genetic problem from ( in breeding) that is why they always look to adopt children to brake the pattern.

I have never heard such ridiculous answers, where in the world do some of you people get your information. "They have genetic problems, due to in breeding?" Are you serious? Autism is believed to be linked to the DPT vaccine, Amish do not vaccinate their children so therefore, they may be less likely to expose their children to the risk of getting it this way. Besides the fact that they keep their business to themselves. Geez people, c'mon!!!

um, they might but since theyre outside the view of society we dont hear about it often.
or they may see autism as some kind of demon inside the child and (and this is purely my thought but probably not true) get rid of it
its horrible i know, but some societies do do things like that

It is true, they do not have their children vaccinated. Vaccinations are linked to autism.

They do, they just don't treat it as an illness, but rather accept as a persons natural way of being.
