The translation was switched from "charity" to love.
Charity is patient, charity is kind,.....
Why was it changed and was something lost in the translation?

The two words used to mean exactly the same thing. So when the King James Version was done over 400 years ago, it is possible that the translators used "charity" in order to avoid confusion with romantic or sexual love. In more modern translations, the confusion would be more in the word "charity" as it has been used for the relationship between financial donors and the recipients of financial gifts. So it was clearer to use love at this point. Language is a dynamic thing, and words are used in a different way over the centuries. if we want the readers to understand perfectly what they are reading, different words must be used. You could always learn Greek if you want the New Testament exactly the way it was first written! LOL. (Actually, I find that fun, but I realize a lot of people would find it very boring).

As I recall, the words were put to music - like in the 70s. The word Love just flowed better. But I also agree with the other person - love and charity are synonymous.

Here is what can be trusted my dear.
Define the difference between "love" and "Charity"
The word is (agape) It means to hold the concern for others above our own with no selfish ambition or hope for personal gain. It is sad that we can not properly use the word "love" there because that is not how America defines love anymore.

That is a very good question- keep asking them- how about why do we celebrate the Resurrection and call it by a Pagen name? or why do we care about the Ten Commandments and not bother to keep the 4th one? I could go on and on! keep reading your Bible!!!!

The Greek has "Agape," which is love.
So, I'd go with it.
