How then do you know if you're overstimulating yourself or understimulating yourself?

I believe whatever makes you feel the best is ultimately going to be the healthiest for you.
If your muscles get achey easily, and you are gaining weight that is a good indicator you need more exercise.

I would say that a combination is best. If you're overstimulating yourself you'll feel nervous or not right.
