I've heard of some that live to 25 or 26. Most live to the mid to late teens. Indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats. Get yours fixed, when you get him or her and keep him/her indoors.

If you take good care of them, usually up to 20 years. It's a long commitment, and a long time to have to make sure you're always in cat-friendly housing. In my experience, it's far more expensive and difficult to find affordable housing when you have even one cat. There's always non-refundable deposits, and monthly cat fees (as high as $75 a month!), and it might rule out the cheaper appartments that you could have if you didn't have a cat. Think long and hard about that, because it's wrong to get a cat, and just throw it away because it's no longer convienent for you to have one. Perhaps a shorter lived animal would be better... various types of rodents maybe.... but even a large rabbit can live 15 years.
I have 2 cats, that I got without thinking about it. I love them, and I have a responibility to give them the best care possible, but on only 16k a year it is extremely difficult to find a place to live that I can afford and that will take them, not to mention vet bills! But just like having a child, you have to take care of them, and they've both got at least 10 years left, if not more. I won't give them away, because many animals find themselves in bad homes with abusive people, or worse, get "adopted" by medical testing places. I love my babies too much to let that happen to them, so I manage the best I can.

well the Oldest cat was:
- Puss, 36 years old; died on Nov. 29, 1939
Reliable information on the average life-span of cats does not exist and would be impossible to obtain. Well-cared-for, neutered house pets, however, may live into their teens. Some may reach the 20s, and a few have been reported to live into the 30s.

Cats can live on average about 15-20 years. Some cats have been known to live 30 years. A cat is definitely a long-term commitment, and they do live longer than dogs.

I have had friends that had cats live til 19 years of age. So, I went to the Humane Society and got a cat that was a year old. She was a doll, with a mind of her own. Thought she would live til 19 years of age but she had to be put to sleep at 6 years of age. So, you just never know. I never knew she was as sick as she was and the Vet said it is very hard to tell when a cat is ill. So, I guess I would check with your local Vet or Humane Society.

I would say a cat can live up to about 18 years.

Hi, there isn't any age limit. One cat I knew lived to be 22. My cat lived to be 16. I guess it's up to the cat. I suggest you buy one and love the heck out of it. Cats are fun silly, but fun. Have fun with it if you buy one.

I know a slender cat that has limited outdoor exposure that has been hanging around for nearly 20 years. It lives next door to me. My guess is it is about 21-22. It still seems very healthy.

It's different with every cat, could be anywhere from 10 to 20+ years.

well it depends on how well the cat is taken care of.
their average span is about 12-15 years but they can live past 20 years.
