Look up Luke 11:2, Matthew6:5; Matthew 6:7 James 4:3
Proper matters to be prayed for Matthew 6: 9-13 Our Father in the heavens let your Name be sanctified. Let your Kingdom come. Let your Will take place as in heaven also upon earth Give us bread for today forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors do not bring us into temptation but deliver us from the wicked one. We must pray to the Father through Jesus' name

If you think prayer is just asking forgivness you are mistaken. It is not important to show our loyality by a prayer to the Lord who knows every secret , hidden sins and good we do. If we want to demostrate our loyality by a prayer it is our pride. Because we are never loyal than the person to whom we pray.
According to St.theresa of Avila, prayer is a conversation with God. So tell your sins to him as you are saying to your mother when you do something wrong.
According to St.Therese of Child Jesus it is just impore your heart to God. So, try God is never far from us he is our best friend and our father. Do not forget the mother Mar. She will teach you how to pray. Ask and see. Befor you pray if you do not know how to pray ask the Holy spirit to guide you. We never pray unless the Holy spirit guide us.
I think at the beginning as a method (St.John of the Cross and st.Theresa of Avila both are skeptik on the methods, infact St.Theresa uses "Our father" as a model and meditate on every sentence deep . It is very practical. There you find all the elements of a good prayer including thanksgiving, glorifing, asking forgivness and dependence on the Lord) but at the beginnig you can use the holy name of Jesus too. Often when we go to bed we are wery tired and think we have no strength to pray. Just risite the Holy name of Jesus till you get slee. It will give you inneer peace and lead you to a deep inner prayer.
Good Luck! God Bless!

+ Forgiveness +
Try an act of contrition like:
My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong
And failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance,
to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Amen.
+ Loyalty +
Try the Lord's Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Or the Glory be:
Glory to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and will be forever.
Amen.
+ The Liturgy of the Hours +
For a little longer prayer, try Compline (Night Prayer) of the Liturgy of the Hours: http://www.universalis.com/-800/compline.htm
+ With love in Christ.

Read a verse. "The Lord is My Shepherd, I shall not want He make me lie down in green pastures. Ps. 23. or a scripture you memorize in your heart. Remember your prayers do not have to be long. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallow be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the power and the glory forever and ever, Amen
