Dietary guidelines are specific amounts of vitamins, minerals , proteins, fats , carbs, etc that a given individual or group of individuals should structure their daily intake of nourishment (food& drink) around.

There are guidelines established by the US government to serve as a benchmark for all to develop their own guidelines from. A physician may also set up some specific dietary guidelines for someone based upon that person's current medical situation or goal.

Check out the "food pyramid" on the net. There are different recommendations depending on your gender age etc .
