I have a ragdoll cat...he is supposed to have no problem being indoors, and due to their friendly natures makes it dangerous for them to go outside. However my cat got outside once and seemed to be having such a good time sniffing around, eating grass and chasing insects that I started letting him out supervised by me. Big mistake! He now sits by the door crying, staring out of the window for hours and generally going stir crazy! I have to stand outside in the freezing cold and watch him (only rain puts him off). He also shoots out of the door at any given opportunity...I have to watch him like a hawk. He is also very wary of strangers and panics if he sees one..so not your typical ragdoll (though he IS gorgeous, like other ragdolls). My advice would be to choose a lap cat (persians are a good bet) and never, ever let it outside, It won't miss what it's never had!

Cats are not quite the same as dogs. Yes, their personality does vary slightly by breed. But overall, a cat is a cat, and a cat should only EVER live indoors anyway. Persians are good cats, but you must realize you'll spend at least an hour a day brushing and combing a Persian, and at least that long cleaning up the hair it sheds. Again, all cats are indoor cats. Go to a shelter and pick out a sweet one that matches your personality.

Don't bother buying a 'bred' cat. Just get a mix / moggy / whatever you want to call them.
Cats' personalities have very little to do with their breed. We've had three cats (our first one died only two years ago at the grand age of 22!) and they are / were all random mixes who we've rescued in some way or other. Incidentally, all three are / were girls and much friendlier and placid than boys usually are. So long as you don't take any messing from them (but don't ever hit 'em- shouting's usually enough to discipline them when they're little and scratching the wallpaper / carpet / priceless painting), show them affection and give them regular feeding times (sure-fire way to keep a cat from running away!) then they'll very likely turn into really nice cats, no matter how badly treated they've been in the past. Our newest cat used to tremble if you so much as walked in the room, but now you'd barely think she's the same cat- really sociable and cheeky. Great little cat.
There are thousands of cats that need homes- don't give a breeder another reason (i.e. cash) to keep breeding cats and selling them on.

Any breed, shape or size can be an house cat. Our cat is a short hair domestic (sounds better than calling her a moggy). We had her from 6mths old. She had been used to going outdoors but soon adjusted to living indoors. If you have them castrated/neutered this lessons the urge for them to wander off. Our cat is now 9yrs old. She doesn't bother to wander off,( only occasionally) she just sits by the back door if it's open. My cousin had a Persian and that would take off at any given opportunity.

Persians will cover your house in long kitty hair, and probably more than their fair share of hairballs. They would not be my top choice to keep in my home.
Different breeds of cats have different personalities. Breeds like Siamese and Abyssinians are very inquisitive and playful, and Bengals are more doglike in personality. Each cat, though, is an individual, there are no guarantees to its behavior.
I would suggest adopting a cat or kitten from your local animal shelter. Once you see "your" kitty, you will know. You will be saving a life, and giving a down-on-its-luck kitty a wonderful new life.
I would recommend getting a collar and tags for any cat, just in case it gets outside, and brushing it regularly to cut down on shedding and hairballs.
Good luck to you, and I hope this helps. :)

I have three Bengals and a stray that I rescued from the garbage as a newborn. All my cats are indoors as when you put them outside, they have the risk of Feline Leukemia, other diseases and their lifespan is shorter. Bengals are amazing and smart cats but extremely active. I love all animals and a cat you can have in a house, condo, efficiency, whatever. All they need is a litter box, water, food and love. :)

Why could you want to reproduce even as such truly some animals are placed to death at shelters each and each year because there is no longer sufficient residences for them? Get your cat SPAYED. And in case you want kittens - flow undertake some. in case you do not - and enable your cat have kittens - then you definately're the reason why that many more suitable kittens are placed TO death because human beings will take your kittens quite. And sure - your cat can seize ailments from stray cats - and die - and each and each of the kittens die to boot.

A plain old moggy is as good as any cat, but if you are looking for a pedigree well suited to indoors, try ragdolls. They are very placid. Persians are fine, but bear in mind you're going to have that long hair all over your furniture!

Ragdolls. Although they are expensive they are no doubt the friendliest cats you will ever meet! I have 3 and they are gorgeous. They are not allowed out because they are so friendly they would go off with anyone! They don't need to be brushed very often and even when you do brush them they will love it and mine purr like mad!!! The cutest cats ever!

Persians or Toygers. Toygers are so cute. they cost 3,500 and are old a few at a time in the US. I have a persian and they ar ereally nice to be with. They are only allowed to stay indoors because they lost their hunting abilities. Of course, it is your' choice. You might even like tabby cats (not to say their not cute or anything).
