First there are only two true breeds that have a black/purple tongue which is a chinese chow chow and a chinese shar-pei ( i own both) no it doesnt mean they are more prone to biting none of my dogs or any of my pups have ever bitten or been aggressive , i really hate how some people like to say the pei's are mean or are an aggressive breed it is completly untrue . all dogs can be mean from, chi's,poodles, labs, cockers, shih tzu's etc depends how the animals is raised and socialized. who ever tells you different is wrong!!! there are corss breeds that may have black spotting on there tongues but no that doesnt make them more prone to bite either.

If a dog has a red tongue, there's a problem. Dogs have pink tongues. That aside, black tongues are present in chows, sharpeis, and mixes of one or the other. Many breeds also have random black spotting on the tongue or roof of the mouth. It's pigmentation and has nothing whatsoever to do with temperment.
Now if a dog has it's ears back and foam coming out of it's mouth, it's definitely more likely to bite you than a dog with a red tongue.

No, Not at all, not anymore so then any other breed.
There are only 2 breeds That I know of that have Black tongues; one is the Chow Chow, and the other is the Chinese Shar Pei.
Who ever told you that a black tongued dog would bite is full of it. Chow Chows were bred to Guard Royaly in China. I am not sure about what the Shar Pei was bred for. I am kinda leary of Dogs with tiny little pig eyes, as they tend to be unpredictable.

I would say no, because there aren't that many dogs with black -or blue- tongues. Only one I can think of is the ChowChow and Chow crossbreeds.
I know some people may disagree with me, but I've never met a NICE Chow. I'm sure there ARE nice chows in the world, but I've met plenty while working in kennels and vet offices and doggy hotels and not one of them wasn't borderline vicious.
That's probably the origin of this story that you heard.
But ALL dogs have the capacity to bite no matter what color their tongue is.

I don't know if a dog with a black tongue is more likely to bite than a red tongued dog but............what I have heard is that the black tongued dogs can handle the hot weather better than the red tongue dogs!! don't know if there is any truth to it or just a wives tale!!!

No...I own a chow and she has a black tongue. She has not bitten anyone or even shown any indication that she would bite anybody. My daughter was bitten by a husky. Any dog could bite no matter what color their tongue.

No, it isn't true. Because not all dogs have black tongues. The only dog that has a black tongue that I know of is a Chinese Chow Chow. Some times their tongues can be black and pink. And yes, they can bite as they were bred to be guard dogs in China.

Well there is two things to consider... one is that if it has a black tongue that its a chow chow mix or chinese sharpai mix and they are both dominant aggressive breeds.... and i actually think there are more chow chow mixes in the world than there is shepherd mixes or rotty mixes etc.... So i could see dogs with a black tongue biting someone more than one without a red tongue... but i know their bite isnt as bad as a pitt's or rottie's bite is =) i hope this was helpful!!

Untrue. For reference, there are 2 breeds that can have a solid black tongue. The Chow-Chow, and the Akita. Other breeds can have spots of black on their tongues, but shouldn't have a solid black tongue.
