Because they are not prayed in Faith with accordance to God's will. Mark 11:24. Mathew 7:7-11. 2 Cor. 1:20. James 4. Mathew 21:22.
You can't pray for something that is not in accordance to God's word and expect it to happen. You have to pray in faith without wavering. You have to hold fast to the confession of your faith. Your confession has to line up with what the word of God states. All God's promises are Yes and Amen. Jesus promised that whatever you ask in His name you will have. But there are conditions that prayer must meet. You must pray in Faith. You must pray according to God's will. You must hold fast to God's promises.You have got to know God's word in order to know how to pray in by faith standing in Him. You must know Him.

A rich crook businessman could pray for a raise and get it, he then attributes that to his personal deity. All the people in developing countries, many of which are very religious, who pray for just the basic necessities of life: food, clean water, shelter, are not so lucky. There is no power of prayer. The faster you realize this the faster you can join in on helping the people who really need it ourselves.

God Answers Prayer in 3 ways
Yes
No
and wait.
Usually if we do not see a responce right away, it is not No, but wait.
"If God answered all our prayers right when we prayed them, who would really be in control? Us or God?" Us. But we are not in control. God has a plan for us all, so don't worry (book of matthew). Anyway, hope this helps!

This used to confuse me also and I decided God just doesn't care. Here's a few others;
lack of faith
doubting God
using vain repitition
unforgiveness
spiritual pride
lack of persistence
not according to God's will
sin of the heart
improper motives
failure to apply spiritual authority
wavering faith
don't know how to pray
unconfessed sin

The only unanswerd prayers I know of are those prayed by un-believers.
What you may be asking is why does God sometimes say no, or not now.
God does things His way in His time.

All prayer is answered.
It's just not always answered according to our "wants"...
God knows best.
Everything happens according to his Will, and in his time.
He has the right to answer "no" too --- you might want to keep that in mind.

Because you're praying to the wrong god.
One time I prayed to Jehovah and Zeus answered. So the next time I prayed to Zeus and then Thor answered.
It was the weirdest thing.
Anyone figure out how to pray to all of the gods at once? If so, please let us know how this is done.

If you pray to God, you must be his.
Accept Jesus Christ into your heart.
Prayers are answered: yes, no, and wait
