What are the units used when measuring levels of bacteria such as strep. mutans and lactobacillus?????

Please help me! I've been trying to figure out what are the units of measurment are for bacteria!! I would appreciate any help!!

Cultures are often measure in "CFU", colony forming units per volume or plate. An individual organism, given the proper medium, will form a unique colony when plated on appropriate solid media.
